Has anyone here bought/used this (PS-IO)? - Does it live up

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

Has anyone here bought/used this (PS-IO)?

- Does it live upto the hype?
- Is it worth the high cost? (150AUD = 143CAD, still pricey)
- Easier to physically mod a smaller portion of your system (Switch Board Kit) versus a larger modchip?

It's truly tempting, and I do believe nothing like it (PS1 FLASHcart) has come out before, so it's a "part" of a flashcart collection that'd be missing, but I'm not sure it's really worth the cost.

>inb4 shill
they're sold out, dumbass
>>
I'm sure you can find something better to spend your money on
>>
They're not available yet. Only preorder/beta got it.

Read the forum.

There are a few shitty bugs from what I remember reading.

Some compatibility problems too.

In relation to this unit, or in general?

Why don't you suggest me some better things then, but you are correct.
>>
>requires trace wires cut & rewired
worthless
>>
>>3179159
Compared to modchips...?
>>
>>3179226
You can buy a PSX modchip for 4$ or a modded PSX from online for like 30$ if you can't do it yourself
>>
>>3179159
>>3179234
>I can't solder
>my mom wont let me solder in the house even if I wanted to
Wow what a huge con.
>>
>>3179237
>I can't solder
Then the PSIO isn't for you. It's not just something you plug in as originally claimed. It requires more soldering than a mod chip. Pretty retarded.
>>
>>3179318
Try reading that post again, champ.

>>
>>3179327
It doesn't matter whether your mom will let you solder or not. If you can't do it you can't install a PSIO. Sorry that's just the way it is.
>>
Works pretty good but a few games don't work
>>
It sounds like it'd be a good idea if it didn't require you to solder...and it supported more than 32gb.

Still a bit too expensive in my opinion especially if certain games don't work.
>>
>>3179135
So is the PSIO playing these games natively or is it still emulation? As in, PS2 emulates PS1 games. I would never pay $150 for emulation, otherwise I'd stick with my PSP. Hell, I won't pay that much if that shit is below 100% compatibility.
>>
>>3180301
Of course its emulation, are you retarded?
>>
>>3179135
this is better

>>3180304
wow.
>>
>>3180304
It's not that obvious, it's real hardware which brings it down to a maybe.
>>
>>3179234
>You can buy a PSX modchip
Then I can deal with a old worn laser, drive motor and bad disc burns, awesome! Or I could not waste discs and load all of my shit off of an SD card if this thing works properly. Are you really gonna bitch about having to cut one trace and a tiny bit of soldering, then turn around and suggest more soldering? Your mom shouldn't have drank as heavily while she was pregnant with you.
>>
>>3180318
>worn laser (if early unfixed model)
>bad image burning (if you're retarded)
>buying CD-R in bulk
vs
>buying highest capacity SD card (or several)
>possibly emulation
>not 100%/unknown compatibility rate

This alone SLIGHTLY favors burning discs, now factor in the price tag. The only definitive positive bar none for PSIO that I can think of is virtual memory cards which is very useful.
>>
>>3180326
>possibly emulation
I thought this was a shitpost but you kids are really this dumb huh?
>>
>>3180334
So as I understand it, the real dumbasses here are the ones who want to drop $150 for 70% compatibility emulation with 32GB storage cards.
>>
>>3180337
>emulation
That word doesn't mean what you think it means, kiddo.
>>
>>3180338
If it isn't native with 100% compatibility rate, then it's a $150 piece of shit.
>>
>>3180341
>if a product's beta firmware is shit then the product is shit

How old are you kid?
>>
>>3179318
That's retarded. Not even the Dreamcast SD Card adapter needs soldering. I'd rather just get a mod chip.
>>
>>3179234
burning discs is a bitch and costs money.
>>
>>3180337
this guy is baiting. the compatibility is nearly 100%

Yeah, OP here, anyway.

This is why I wanted to ask about the unit here, because burning CDs now is totally fucking ass-backwards when we have microSD chips that can literally hold 45:1 worth of games on a single 32GB vs a single CD, and I'd much rather multiple tiny microSDs than multiple CDs...

Also, reading replies, it seems that the unit is good, but not "there" yet, in comparison to modchips, and also to others (ex. EverDrive).
>>
>>3179147
It's also kind of gay that they only work on the original models and not the downsized PSONEs that don't break easily due to inferior parts

I'm more than certain that they could have gone the GDEmu route https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NtOC9_Nq-s8
>>
>>3180301
It basically interrupts the data streaming from the drive, the soldering required is pretty minimal and basically allows you to stream data from the parallel port. It's native code on native hardware. There is technically "emulation" but not any more than a flashcart.
>>
>>3180937
That's not emulation.
>>
>>3180941
Exactly, glad you agree with me.
>>
>going to all that trouble
>has worse compatibility than a modchip
You might as well be emulating on a computer
>>
>>3180984
Please provide proof of this "worse compatibility" bullshit that everyone seems to spout, according to >>3180781 , there doesn't seem to be many fucking issues with games, unless you're soooo dead-set on playing your pirated copy of WipEout XL, or 2097 from a PAL dump...
>>
>>3180301
>PS2 emulates PS1 games

No.
>>
>>3180937
Thank you for an actual answer

>>3180301
Doesn't PS2 only emulate certain PS1 games like first party titles and all that?
>>
>>3181509
No emulation. That's full hardware compatibility and it can run ALL PS1 titles.

Thanks
>>
>>3181513
While I'm not arguing against it, can you explain why PS2 slim has incompatible PS1 games? I'm curious why that happens.
>>
>>3181628
Probably from how the way the board is laid out it causes minor timing issues that breaks some PS1 games.
