Post retro games that you loved to get lost in, and could play for hours, make almost no progress, just wander around, and not even know what happened.
>>
You posted it. Shout outs to Wet Dry World. I used to play on that level just to dick around as if it was a playground.

I also fired up Bob-Omb Battlefield just to surf around on a turtle shell. Almost a proto Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, if you will.
>>
Hey that's every game ever made if you play it shitfaced drunk.

Banjo&Kazooie

It took me years to actually finish it as i was just doing the same worlds over and over again.
+ the cimetery level freaked me out so i couldn't play it until i was old enough to not shit in my pants.
>>
When I was a kid it was Earthbound. I would wander around Ness' house and pretend I was really there.

Or high.

Doom is surprisingly fun to play while high. One time I got some really good indica, and loaded up Requiem.wad with -nomonsters, and spent a good half hour just wandering around.

I remember playing this as a kid, replaying all the levels countless times experimenting with all the different copy ability combinations
>>

>Princess Sevenleaf
>LOL DUDE WEED

So predictable.
>>
>>3170621

100% this. I remember spending hours just fully exploring every dungeon, and the feeling of wonder from exploring all of the ruins and seeing how they interlink. So much amazing side content in this game.
>>
>>3170757
No shit? Why do you think she calls herself SEVEN LEAF?
>>
>>3170621
Holy shit this, it might sound weird but as a kid the world on this felt really alive, i don't remember the sequel being like that but i've never played it as much as this.
>>
>>3170792

That's why I said it's predictable, duh.

This was the first game I bought with my own money. I spent alot of time on Shiver Star, especially in the mall level just because it seemed so different to the stages prior.

Best Zelda clone.
>>
>>3170846

IMO It's not even a Zelda clone, it also has platforming elements but I guess I know what you mean.

MNsG was also an early 3D adventure game, it came out before both Megaman Legends and Ocarina of Time.
>>
>>3170621
Hm, tell me about this game.
>>
>>3170962
Megameme Legend
>>
>>3170645
My experience of playing Doom while high was to get confused, lost, and wonder why all these monsters are trying to kill me.
>>
>>3170962
Mega Man game
odd camera controls
You collect various items, and when you've got the right combination, Roll makes you a new weapon or piece of equipment. Eventually you'll find parts to make yourself better jumping boots, or skates that make you slide faster than you can run, or helmets that reduce damage.
You upgrade your weapons you've created with money to make them better.
There are parts you equip to your buster cannon to make it better in different ways, like higher damage, higher rate of fire, further distance.

it's fun to just fuck around in the city
>>
This goddamned game is so fun to explore. Even the hub world had me enticed for hours at a time. The items only added to the experimenting.

If only I knew about the IJ glitch back then.
>>
>>3170830
This is walking simulator, not game
>>
>>3170760
The interlinked dungeon system was amazing. It got to the point where i could get all around the island underground. Once the Sub-gates open theres even more mystery.
>>
>>3170851
Just finishing it now. So enjoyable. All the little things make it so fun. Nothing overly hard which it makes it super comfy.
>>
>>3170846
>>3170851
It actually came out before Ocarina of Time, so it was kinda the first Zelda format game in 3D.
>>
>>3170962
Needs more talent. :^)
>>
>>3170645
I do this, but with monsters, and with slayer and pantera blasting
>>
>>3172528
>getting high to listen to violent music and play violent games

I don't get it, when I'm high I feel all soft and warm and want to play something cute or wacky. Metal music also doesn't fit my high mood, I need something more electronic or weirder.

Now cocaine/meth and Doom/metal, that's another story.
>>
>>3172678
Agreed.. My favorite is to play NES, SNES, Genesis or other 4th gen type stuff when I'm high. Doom is too intense for that

And I'd rather listen to Black Dice than Slayer
>>
>>3170563
i wish we could have a speedrun thread. do we have enough material for it?
>>
>>3172797
you can't have a good discussion about speedrunning on 4chan. gamers in general are too ignorant about how it works, and too angry that it exists at all.

Ultima V and VI and VII.
Still havent finished V. But just live waling around. Visiting townes, getting into fights along the way etc etc

pay attention to the percussion, it's sick
>>
>>3170441
Great game. Terrible camera.
>>
>>3173792
I'm impressed Nintendo went with Tabla. Never knew that.

If that lifts your skirt, listen to some Ravi Shankar or Shivkumar Sharma's "Call of the Valley".
>>
>>3173812
It works well if you alternate between the two camera options for different situations. Never had a problem with 64's camera.
>>
>>3170441
Pretty much all of them. As a kid, I spent more time goofing around and testing the limits of a game than I did actually playing them. I was far more appreciative of things back then. Probably because I didn't have unlimited income for games back then, so I had to squeeze every bit of enjoyment out of what I had.

Pretty much every Zelda and Mario game. I loved messing around in Harvest Moon, hoping to find some weird event or secret that I could trigger. I used to spend hours in Kirby Super Star trying to figure out what abilities I would get from mixing, or what kind of effects certain abilities had on different enemies and bosses.

I think the best thing I ever discovered in a game was the secret "Manta" Shield in Earthworm Jim 2
>>
>>3170846

Goemon 64 was more of a wonderboy in monsterworld clone
>>
>>3174114

In what way?

Anyway, Goemon Games are their own thing. They're action adventure games, you could probably argue they took elements from many games but ultimately they have their own personality and trademark nuances to them.
MNSG was a 3D version of the older Famicom and SFC games.
>>
>>3173436
I'm going to pick this up because it doesn't sound like regular dog doo.
>>
>>3173436
My man!!! Yes except for me it was Tokyo Xtreme Racer Zero. Thousands of miles indeed. I would just build a car, mod it and drive it aimlessly with a steering wheel setup. Reset, restore my money, pick another car and repeat.

>>3173812
>Great game. Terrible camera.
This. Super Mario 64 is a fantastic game, but I hate the camera with a passion.

bingo

Being one of the first open world games of its kind, naturally it was perfect for messing around in. Some very comfy environments helped too.

1 goddamn hub area leading to a few places that wall off other places until you reach them in the game isn't "open world".

I swear, gamers these days have such skewed views of the goddamn N64 days. Nintendo must have put some heavy brainwashing subliminal messages in that goddamn console to make you all praise it so much.
>>
>>3180078
Nope, just really solid, genre-defining games. He may be misinformed about what the term open world means, but at least he isn't a shitposting prick
>>
>>3170441
>and could play for hours
>>
>>3176182
When I was a kid, this was basically all I had. No internet, terrible at video games. I'd play for hours, trying to figure out every hidden spot. It took me forever to actually find the hidden levels, since I was so terrible at the game. It's burned into my memory forever.
