At least with Final Fantasy you can pick classes. Gives it a little more depth.

I still haven't managed to get the PC98 version running.
I can't create a save disk. The readme said to hold COPY during bootup but I haven't managed to get that to work with an emulator.

I never had a Master System, but I did have that Master System emulator disc for PlayStation. One of my favorites although I didn't beat it until years later. Probably the first non-Pokemon RPG I got my hands on. So yeah, one of my favorites.

I own this on the Master System and have been wondering if I should devote any time to it.

I wanted to like it, considering its one the few rpgs on SMS.

But its grindy as shit. Grindiest RPG ive ever played. Never beat it. Also, really shitty interface design with the map screen being about 1/3 of what it should be. I wouldnt recommend it.

It was the game that finally made me understand grinding and then I went back and ground in Phantasy Star.

Not bad. Quirky gameplay, great aesthetic.

Yeah, but for good reason.

Picked it up recently only to discover I lost my MS somewhere in moving or left it at a friends house and it got lost can't remember. Too lazy to go out and grab another.

It was my first RPG so it holds a special place. But as others noted, it's very grindy and the battles are duller than in the first DQ, plus the bosses are level-checks.

Still, there are some unique mechanics like no healing spells nor healing in combat, two currencies, reputation.

It's a different game, from before the conventions of JPRG, and with some interesting monster design.

I then got Phantasy Star and, yes, PS is much more enjoyable.
