Can we have a Gen 4 and under spooky games thread?

I'll open with the first game to actually frighten me when I was a kid. Splatterhouse was some pretty solid shit.

jesus man what does it take to get a MA-17 around here anyway

No official Western release, doesn't count.

You have to be one of five games:

Don't know how the fuck Lethal Enforcers got there.
>>
>>3103036
OP here. Yes it does.

>>3103019
And yes it is. I'm glad single antagonist horror games made something of a comeback too.
>>
Is Sweet Home actually worth playing? Couldn't really get into it.

How much does the ending change depending on character death?
>>
>>3103037
>every one of them has some live action element

Now I'm even more confused. Splatterhouse 3 had live action cutscenes.

Also when you're eight years old, pic related is a traumatizing fucking thing to see.

The real Splatterhouse was a little game called wanpaku doki doki and was actually a much cuter game hut japanese boys thought it wouldn't sell in the west so they made it gross. Just another tale of localization!

Pretty badass story though.

I mean if you're gonna localize something at least they didn't half-ass it.
>>
Skeleton on the 2600 is pretty tense. You have to navigate a 3D maze while a skeleton hunts you down. But as soon as you blast one to bits with your spectral ray gun, you soon find that another has taken its place. Can you escape the unending horrors of the deadly skeleton's maze?

Consider also the upgraded version, Skeleton+, which has some additional niceties and is also way easier. Game is made for stereo-modded ataris so unless you have such a mod in place it's probably better to emulate it. It's playable without but not as fun IMO.
>>
>>3103132
Way too fuckin spooky for me
>>
>>3103132
>>3103193
There's a skeleton and it gets you

and when it gets you it says I GOT YOU

>>
>>3104803
I don't really do romhacks since there are so damned many to choose from and most are awful.

I'll give it a shot, though. I enjoyed Monster Party even without the surreal novelty factor.
>>
>>3104032
Better actually. I'd much rather play Doki Doki Wanpaku Monogatari Densetsu than any of the other Splattermen. If you disagree you're most likely an edgelord.
>>
>>3104870
>If you disagree you're most likely an edgelord.

Oh stop that bullshit. I'm not calling you a faggot for liking a chibi version of a horror game series. Why bother accusing people of being edgy for enjoying a horror themed beat em up?
>>
>>3103051
All of the endings are really short and simplistic but the music is nice, the parts that change basically go like this:
>5 alive: Group photo in their reporting office
>4 alive: Shot of souls rising from the mansion as it crumbles
>3-2 alive: Solid black screen with two or three souls moving across to represent your dead teammates
>1 alive: Last survivor erects a monument to everyone who died and dwells for a moment
You can find screencaps at http://www.vgmuseum.com/end/nes/b/sweet.htm

For being a pinball game, Devil Crash has some real unsettling stuff, like the woman's face in the middle of the board that turns into some sort of dragon, and this thing in the picture that looks like it crawled out of H. R. Giger's anus.

I looked it up and it's "The Lurking Fear" by Time White, and was evidently commissioned for the book.

Lacking google image search, the jews of the time most likely stole it straight off the book cover and never sent the guy a dime.

Good fucking catch. The picture was just too high quality for the game.
This wasn't exactly a Psygnosis production.

>Monster Party
Ran into a loose copy for $12, might pick it up one day.

Is the rest of the game equally weird tho

Well, unexpected finale to Miner Willy series, "That time when Willy took some shady acid and had a near-death experience"

Not quite as sexual, but yeah, it's still weird.

The team saved the rest of their phallic symbols for Cho Aniki.

I just looked this up and literally couldn't get to the first skeleton without crying. Holy shit. My heart fucking leaped out of my chest.

The game is brutally tough. Rumor is whoever was in charge of localizing never made it to that level so they didn't see the giant dick boss. It's like the third or fourth level boss.

>that filename

Fucking kek.

All he had to do was call it a preemptive press, and he wouldn't have needed so much fucking footage to explain his bullshit.

Just bought this game today, holy shit I'm in love with it.

Now suppose there were very tiny monsters in your home or possibly even in your pocket

Would that not be rather spooky

This game is super fun.
>>
>>3122851

How is that less autistic?
>>
>>3126943
Indeed, I've enjoyed it in co-op.
>>
>>3126939
Saw a copy for $30, never seen it before but it did peak a portion of my interest.
Didn't buy it as inoptes to get Monster Party instead.
>>
>>3127157
God damn even MiMP goes for 30 bucks now? Ridiculous.
>>
>>3125001
What do you love about it? All the interesting stuff is front loaded. It's very dull past the first stage.
>>
>>3103597
I'm pretty sure I had this nightmare as a kid
>>
>>3126948
It implies that it's an entire press (which it is; none of that half-A nonsense) while explaining what the fuck it's actually doing: preemptively pressing a button before entering a stage.

Maybe he's having fun.
>>

Difficult, yet controls well. Enemies are weird and the levels are unsettling to some extent. Just a fun game, not the gory but certainly a very well made game.

Motherfucker this gave me nightmares aa a kid.

I'm inclined to agree. As a platformer there's really nothing wrong with it.
>>
>>3102994
I remember playing some NES game where you're a flying head fucking up cities. It was weird being the antagonist too.
>>
>>3131179
That's Zombie Nation, fucking awesome game.
