I always liked how the boss for this area sort of forced you to run a full dragoon party. This game was good and trying to get you to change team composition often

definitely love that as well, though i sort of dread endgame where its foolish not to use all ninjas/sages.
the midgit portions are strange too. i like them, but its odd when a game forces you to run away from everything for a span. i guess they want you to use thief and revel in his midgame buff.

i am inclined to agree, i think thats why i came back to III, its scope lends itself to its own futility in that charges are limited, running leaves you wide open, and many of the little nuances are unspoken such as dual wielding and the left handed element null.

if you equip an elemental weapon in the off hand it will shift to non elemental, so if say you have the salamand sword and its your best weapon available, you can still use it without healing enemies.

well, i guess because it lowers your defence and mdefence to 0 so i never thought it was even worth it. i dont really remember having the extra gil to outfit a party of mages magic slots. ive been pretty gil poor this whole playthrough it feels like

Great analysis. My favorite aspect of 3 is that it is not hindered by a story trying to impress itself with primitive "character development" which is the case of many rpg's.

it's just set piece after set pieces, dungeon after dungeon, boss after boss. always forcing you to change your tactics. and that's the way I like 'em

glad im not alone, this game really brought me back to the raw adversity aspects of rpg adventuring.
though i feel like i ought also say that i felt something of an impact from the notion that zandes gift of a human form was taken as a spit in the face. forsaking your mortality is as kneeling in the dark. something like that. but dont ask me, im just an onion kid

It was so great at this for most of the game but then suddenly near the end it starts forcing you to use the katana classes almost exclusively thanks to dividing enemies

final fantasy III is easily the best of the NES trilogy, but it could be considered a massive pioneer and example of how rpg's can engage you with good game mechanics. there are no gimmicks here

I like chrono trigger but I don't remember finding zeal particularly special. I just passed through it as required by the plot. What's sonspecial about it? I thought the future was cooler personally. And the world map music for the present day (I can't remember all the years) is the best song in the game, in my opinion.

It's definitely a subdued kind of epic since you can't actually get to it from there but there's something just kind of awesome about crossing the land-bridge to reach the far side of Palamecia in FF2.

its definitely been awhile since ive played II, maybe ill boot it up after i finish III. i remember loving the latter half, places like tropical island. great soundtrack too.

kinda got me thinking about the older games orphaned protagonists, loveless ragamuffins that wear capes. its like the perfect medium for self insertion on a long winded journey, sort of forcing you to focus on the grander scheme.

You can spend days exploring Baldur's Gate. It's the most well crafted city I've seen so far. So much love for detail. Athkatla didn't even came close to it.

Yer kiddin'. It's a bunch of piddly little maps you can get around in a few minutes, with only a few (boring) places you can actually enter. So exploring it is about as fun as watching paint grow and if you want to spice things up by talking to the locals you'll find that every unnamed NPC speaks from the same pool of generic lines.
