So, if I use a japanese or american Mario 64 cart on a pal N64 with N64 Passport III and a pal N64 cart to act as unlocker and play it on a pal TV, will I be finally able to play the game at the right freaking framerate?

I don't think so. IIRC the framerate is limited by the hardware, not the cart itself.
>>

Dingo.
>>
Nope, pal games are always 50hz.
>>
>>3061510
This is wrong. 50/60 switch on N64 is set in software. PAL/NTSC is set in hardware though.

So OP should get PAL60.
>>
Oh wait, the american Mario 64 will always run at 60hz or not run at all though. It's the opposite of what >>3061510 said.

This is mostly right. Apparently the signal you get from an ntsc game running on a PAL N64 can be wonky though, unless it's RGB modded.
>>

It's perfectly stable for me.

No it won't.

It will play the Mario 64 cart at 25fps.

The issue is with the Console and the clock speeds. Putting region unlock on doesn't change this.

A personal example. I played Castlevania NTSC on a PAL NES region modded for unlock. It just slowed the game down to 25fps and messed with the graphics aka it doesn't work.

You need to buy an American console - simple as or get it hard modded.

I'm not familiar with N64s hardware so if people are saying otherwise it may be the case but in my experience with other consoles it won't work.

Also good luck if you are trying to capture RGB at PAL60.

Hence the

It's just what I've read on the internet. Supposedly it's fine on some TVs and not so fine on others.
I really don't know about running actual carts with adapters though. An everdrive with ntsc roms on a pal n64 should be fine if it plays nice with your TV.

N64 is like the PS1 - software hertz, hardware color mode. Older consoles are hardware everything.

Also RGB has nothing to do with PAL or NTSC.

PAL60 itself is not supported by all TVs.

In my experience the problem is not with the signal, but that one or two games have minor timing glitches when run at 60hz on a PAL console.
