I wanna get an AVI to HDMI adapter to use on a flatscreen for my N64, but I can´t tell what adapters won´t stretch the image to 16:9 instead of 4:3, anyone use any/know of any?
>>
I'm also curious about this
>>
>>3044651
That's the opposite of what you want to get, that takes hdmi and converts it to av.
You need av to hdmi.

What kind of TV's do you guys have that don't have composite in?
>>
>>3044681
Can you provide a recommendation?

You want this.
You can get them on ebay and aliexpress or other chinese websites.

I have one of those hdmi to avi converters. They work. I only did it so I could watch shows from my laptop on my big crt since my hdtv was at uni and I was home.
>>
Have fun with shitty display lag.
>>
probably a dumb question but is using one of these any better than just putting the av cables in your hdtv if you have the option to do so? does it actually do anything for the image quality or is just a compatibility/convenience thing?
>>
>>3044751
No advantage beyond adding AV inputs to TVs that don't have any.
>>
For Dreamcast owners: What converter do you use for VGA?
>>
>>3045749
A cheapo vga cord from ebay, it works great. Only get an expensive box if you want scanlines or the option for scart upscale if your tv doesn't support the dreamcast vga resolution.
>>
>>3044651
hey bros, i have this hdmi2av and work very good on bot 16:9 and 4:3, also you can change the resolution in anyway you want and make a custom... i chose to stay in 1080p on a 4:3 old tv and fit the entire screen

thanks anon. that's all i really need to know to not need one.
>>
>>3045819
Would something like this work? I can't get VGA to work with my HDTV though it does work on my monitor.

Not true at all. Most HDTVs have horrible deinterlacing algorithms and will look terrible if you just feed them analog input. Standalone boxes usually have much better deinterlacing.

Of course, I'm sure there's some TV manufacturers that put effort into their deinterlacing, but out of the dozen or so I've tried over the past 10 years they've all looked like shit.

Never says IF it has Input Lag.
>>

and NEVER got an answer
>>
>>3047003
this
>>
>>3046543
Accurately determining input lag involves the use of incredibly expensive photography equipment. The developers could give a theoretical estimate of input lag, but it'd be really meaningless without the actual experimental evidence.
>>
>>3046543
I use a 10m HDMI cable and dont have any input lag at all my friend
>>
>>3044651
These ultra cheap converters somettimes lag or randomly stutter every few minutes, its hard to tell until you get it home.

I got 3 of them to convert hdmi media players to work on tvs and 2 of them had this issue, which I want to believe is due to overheating or poor craftmansship.

Then I spent $50 on one on amazon which was about 5 times larger, made of metal, and it worked fantastic with zero lag.

YMMV and you generally get what you pay for. Also the more expensive ones give you an option for image stretch.

>What kind of TV's do you guys have that don't have composite in?

Not every system has composite out

Which one is that 50usd one, is it on eBay?

Or do we only have the ubber expensive ones to trust.

>No proper straight definitive answer
>>
the consensus is that cheapo converters like that are pretty laggy.

just make sure you set your TV to "Game Mode" to minimize it.

the consensus also is that you should drop hundreds of dollars on a Framemeister and SCART cables. but then also that if you REALLY want to do it right, buy a PVM and get some BNC breakout cables because HDTVs are for plebs.

I am speaking from no experience, but just from what I've picked up looking at the internet
>>
>>3046534
Right but we're talking about cheapo low end boxes and thinking they've probably got the same cheap chips TVs do.
>>
How good do these work? It's hard to tell by watching youtube videos.

Will it look as good or at least on par to playing on a CRT?
>>
>>3048441
It depends on your TV and what game system you've got hooked up to it.
It's either this for under $10 or $300 plus for a framemeister.
>>
>>3048846

I just want to play my saturn on a modern TV why is that so much to ask for
>>
most of these are locked at 16:9 720 and or 1080p output and wont properly recognize 240p input.

get an old line doubler. dvdo iscan or something.
>>
>>3051058

You should never want to do that. Just get some S-Video cables and play it on a CRT.
>>
>>3051162
>Just get some S-Video cables and play it on a CRT.

I don't really have space for one right now
>>
Tangentially related, but do Component to VGA adapters induce lag?
>>
>>3048846
Why do framemeisters cost $300?

It's literally
>take 240p signal
>convert to digital or something
>use nearest neighbor to get 960p
>black border to get 1080p

how fugging hard is it
>>
>>3044651
Regardless of upscaling, your TV's the pictures ultimate widescreen setting. It's usually in your TV's picture setting under "Normal" or just 4:3.
>>
>>3051203
I don't know man, hopefully the Chinese will come up with something better but not as expensive soon.
>>
I hope those HD Retrovision component cables come out soon and the chinese make knockoffs for around $20 or less. $40 is just too much for those.
>>
>>3051395
Hate to break it to you but converting RGB to component isn't a new thing. If the Chinese were going to make "knockoffs" they would have done it 20 years ago.
