Turbografx-16 thread.
I've never owned this system and I'd like to get into it. What would be a fair price of I were to buy one on eBay? What are the essential games for it?

just buy a Japanese Duo or Duo-R, and an everdrive. Those two things shouldn't cost more than $300 together
People who buy a Turbografx will want a CD system at some point, so just save some time and buy a Duo
the games are way too expensive right now
Essential games? It's a console that has a lot of shooters and some platformers. Plenty of RPGs but most of them are in Japanese
Here's all the worthwhile platformers, unless you like Valis. Some of them are outstanding, while others are okay
>Bonk 1
>Bonk 2 (one of the best games ever made)
>Bonk 3 (decent, most people don't like it)
>Castlevania: Rondo of Blood (10/10 game)
>Shockman (use Turbo switches)
>Shubibinman 3 (kinda short and easy)
>Chiki Chiki Boys
>New Adventure Island
>Wonder Boy III: Dragon Trap (60 fps port of master system version with saving)
>Aoi Blink (Wonder Boy meets Mario World)
>Legend of Hero Tonma
>Liquid Kids
>Parasol Stars: Bubble Bobble III (10/10 game)
>SonSon II (Capcom exclusive, Black Tiger sequel with Mega Man music)
>Jigoku Meguri
>Momotaro Katsugeki
>Legendary Axe
>Legendary Axe II (use sword for final level)
>Cadash (more of a sidescroller)
>Genji Tsushin Agedama (nice action game)
>Ninja Gaiden (remake, easier than NES version)\
>Tiger Road (use turbo switches, not great but decent fun)
>Makai Prince Dorabo
The system has a lot more shooters, so I'll just mention a few
>R-Type (impossible though)
>Soldier Blade (10/10)
>Gradius
>Salamander
>Detana Twinbee
>Final Soldier
>Blazing Lazers
>Mr. Heli
>Override
>Magical Chase
>Air Zonk (10/10)
>Coryoon
>Side Arms
>Lords of Thunder (10/10)
>Gate of Thunder
>1943 Kai
>Galaga 88
Some other really good games
>River City Ransom (godly remake)
>Double dragon II
>Kaze Kiri
>Blood Gear
>Ys IV
>Shinobi
>Neutopia II (if you can get past the hit detection and crappy block puzzles, it's pretty fun)
>Dungeon Explorer
>Dungeon Explorer II

>People who buy a Turbografx will want a CD system at some point
Why's that?
>>2925718
Because most of the worthwhile TG16/PCE games were on CD-ROM.
>>2925718
Because you already have half the set and the CD library is at least as good if not better than the HuCard one, I would imagine.
>>2925718
Unlike the sega cd, the turbo cd has a high amount of the system's best games
Especially Castlevania
TG16/PCE is definitely where I draw the line, personally, when it comes to buying old systems. I just can't warrant the 200-300 bucks I would end up spending on a duo, on top of the obligatory turbo everdrive.
