That's a cheap aftermarket controller from the looks of it.
Try cleaning the rubber pad that makes contact with the board.
Rubbing alcohol or soap and water, just make sure the black contact pads are clean and not shiny.

And chances are that the only problem is that the cable is broken. Replacing it would look shitty and probably cost as much as a new pad in replacement parts (female db9 connector + 8 pin grounded cable with ground sheath).

Just take a pencil eraser and gently rub the unresponsive button for a bit. If that doesn't work you're fucked.

Plug it in, test the button by touching the contacts for that button with something conductive like foil.

If it works then, your problem is with the rubber contact. The graphite may have worn off, rendering it non-conductive. You could add some more graphite with a pencil or glue a bit of foil to the conductive pad. Either way it's probably a temporary fix.

this is probably more /g/ but, some keyboards are much nicer to type on than others.

gamer keyboards, in my experience, usually have pretty shitty dome switches (I'm not saying dome switches are entirely out as there are many decent dome switch keyboards, but usually mechanical is best) yet cost a whole fucking lot and the only really good thing they have going for them is having a lot of rollover.

Late to this thread but maybe someone will read this and find it useful.

After you've done the obvious things like cleaning the board and the bumper pad you can try heating up the board a bit with a blow dryer. If it works while it is warm and stops when it cools off then it means there is a fracture in the board someplace that is closed back up by the expanding parts while warm. You might be able to find the bad line with some kind of sciencey shit like a multimeter and then bypass/bridge it with a tiny bit of wire or solder.

Just a thought. I'm no expert.
