Anyone knows of good old RPGs (my computer can't run shit so I ask here) that doesn't favor the "Good Samaritan" approach? Feel like most of them do this and this kills roleplay for me. If selecting the "yes Madame, I'll do that for you, and won't ask for a reward" nets always the most experience and loot, then any other choice come at the expense of my time (more grinding cuz little exp, pissing people off for sensible choices like asking for money in exchange, NPCs that can't be blackmailed...). I think I cannot be bothered with this anymore, I'm not even asking to be an evil asshole, just a neutral approach according to situation. Feel like Arcanum did this very well.

Icewind dale 2 was okay with this approach if I remember. Yeah, you'll be called an asshole for being neutral, but you'll get your stuff out of it.

It's not an RPG, but if you want to be a dick for fun and profit then you may enjoy Black and White. Like everything Molyneux touches, it's deeply flawed. But despite and occasionally because of those flaws it's extremely entertaining.

I could really recommend Der Langrisser like >>2843507 said. Der Langrisser has many many branching story paths, and it's entirely possible to become the atual villain, having to eventually fight and kill your former companions.
Gameplay is a turnbased strategy game like fire emblem.
It's also got kickass music, the SNES version is best, but the genesis version has (in my opinion) the best music, but that's because I absolutely love the genesis sound chip.

Well it would depend a lot on what kind of character you were playing and what kind of campaign the DM was running. Also some of the most fun games are when players are at odds with each other.

It's sad but B&W2 was such shit and Molyneux seems to only be getting worse over the years that I can't imagine a third game wouldn't be terrible.
I'd love a re-release of the original with a few tweaks though.

Arcanum is great as an evil char, also gets you some of the best companions. Evil/good magic/tech any choice is good and not punished.

Question. Can this be safely played on most emulators nowadays? The Readme text says there's an issue that causes crashes in Snes9k, and recommends using bsnes, but the text is from 08.

Bsnes/higan is still recommended. Snes9X SHOULD work with sound disabled. Zsnes supposedly works with some glitches, but I never use Zsnes because it's shit.
