What are some retro games that use flavor text?
I know Vagrant Story has flavor text for item descriptions and Parasite Eve has flavor text for examining the environment multiple times.

King's Quest has flavor narration, particularly 5 and 6. The fan remakes of 1-3 actually expanded on it, and I loved it. I enjoy it a lot. Does it count?

>Lord of the Undead is now a zombie, not a lord.
What other horrors have been wrought since I was away? Did the moxes get reprinted?
the information menu in final fantasy VIII adds backstory and info about various people and places in the game as you progress. there are also magazines like Occult Fan and Timber Maniacs, and a bunch of stuff in your computer in Balamb Garden

Sure, any kind of text that exists for non-mechanical reasons, be it story, character or atmosphere would count as flavor text. By definition any text-based adventure game would have this due to the "look" verb, but I'm looking for some more clever uses.
U6 is interesting in that it has flavor text and 256-color character portraits.
