The Final Fantasy VIII website is still up after all these years.

They forgot to take it down.

So if you want some internet nostalgia then there you go.

back when flash was the future of web design

>back when flash was the future of web design

Well back in 1999 most people either had dial-up or early DSL which was only marginally better, so most websites were are entirely completely basic or offered a basic version as an option.
>>
i'm loving the 32kbps sound samples
>>
>zell is 5'5"
>seifer is 6'2"

Explains a lot desu
>>
the website refers to galbadia as "garbadia" and dollet as "dole"
>>
>>2785623
>They forgot to take it down.
I don't think that's necessarily true. Maybe they know and just don't care.
>>
>>2785639
Enix bought out Square and insist on its name on everything, so I doubt that.
>>
>>2785636

It also says that stuff like the guides aren't available yet, so they didn't even update their site WHEN FF8 was still new.
>>
>>2785640

Uuuuuhh...Try it the other way 'round there, slick- in this scenario, Square is the jackass.
>>
>>2785649
Regardless of who's the jackass the fact remains that Enix took over Square which was hurting for money after the Spirits Within movie flop, and Enix wants its name on everything now.
>>
>>2785657

Nope. Merger was planned before Spirits Within was even out.

Your beef is with Square, not Enix.
>>
>Will the European version be exactly the same as the Japanese?

>Apart from slightly more information in the tutorial, removal of a Nazi style uniform and a slight change in a weapon (to conform to European guidelines) the game is exactly the same.

Didn't even know this. Bitchin site doe.
>>
>>2785640
Well somebody's been paying to renew the domain and manage the host, and I don't think they're that stupid.
>>
>>2785660
>removal of a Nazi style uniform

Who had a nazi-style uniform? I don't remember seeing anyhing like that.
>>
>>2785662

Stupid? Nooo...But I'd give a big "YES" for incompetent.

There are a lot of japanese old sites that are still up.

Here's Mischief Makers official site from Treasure's site
http://www.treasure-inc.co.jp/products/lp/trouble/tr_tit1.html

and here's the official sin and punishment site on nintendo's web
http://www.nintendo.co.jp/n01/n64/software/nus_p_nguj/index.html

and more N64 stuff:
http://www.nintendo.co.jp/n01/index.html

super famicom:
http://www.nintendo.co.jp/n02/shvc/index.html

you might need to encode the web to Shift_JIS in order to properly view the japanese characters

AND ALL WAS WELL. Nowadays we're hounded by websites that are a half dozen MB large and when you download a page 90% of that is useless fucking javascript crap that does the same as <center> but with 500 lines.

And browsers are starting to block flash
>>
>Strategy Guide

>coming soon
>>
>>2785657
You need to do more research. Despite Spirits Within's failure, Enix was in worse shape than Square. The merger wasn't to save Square, it was to save Enix. Plus >>2785659 is also correct, it was all in the works before that happened.
>>
>>2785657

Square-Enix is basically just Square with an agreement with Yuji Horii's Armor Project to license Dragon Quest.

Enix as we knew it stopped existing after the merger.
>>
Reminder that Space Jam is still up

If not for Flash-heavy websites, our medium-sized office could have squeezed maybe 1-2 more years out of the Pentium II-400 systems we had at the time, since everything else (simple office productivity stuff) still ran just fine on them. Instead, we did a mass upgrade to Pentium 4 systems when 2 extra years could have allowed us to upgrade to Athlon 64 instead.

>>

dude i know japan does bullshit with how much they have a character do at such a young age

but jesus fucking christ, Saint Seiya was definitely the worst when it comes to that. How the fuck did Ikki and Shun escape from an orphanage when they Were 3 and 1 respectively?

sage for off-topic, but damn dude, saint seiya was so fucked when it came to ages
>>
>What was the hardest part of making FFVIII?
>Having 3 characters walk on the screen together at the same time

Was this really that hard? It doesn't sound complicated. Apparently it was, since VIII ended up being the only game to do that for a while. IX and X only had one person visible while walking around again.
>>
>>2786309
Mainly to catch all the young people, so that they can relate better to the characters.
>>
>>2786309
I hear a lot of talk (mostly from /a/ though) that Japan glorifies youth because life over there fucking sucks as soon as you leave school/college which explains why most characters are so damn young.

Resident Evil was just as dumb with characters in their early 20s being experienced ex-special forces and shit.
>>
>>2786346
Must have had bad programmers on their team.
>>
>>2785763
<center> is deprecated you dumb cunt. lrn2css
>>
>>2786346
You basically have to constantly track the X/Y of Squall and have the others move to the X/Y he previously occupied when his current X/Y doesn't match the previous X/Y.

That's the very abridged version. The RPG maker game Jay's Journey had the caterpillar system and it did it that way, and the code was actually long as fuck. And that's for a sprite-based tiled RPG.
>>
>>2786408
But you can still use it. For simple web pages, it's much more convenient to use these one word tags than putting in style sheets or using inline styles.
>>
>>2786416
They just didn't know the appropriate algorithm to solve this problem so they came up with unnecessarily complicated solutions. The developers of RTS games had no problems programming thousands of units to follow each other.
>>
>>2786427
Well, it's a known fact japs can't code for shit and
Americans outperform then at every single task.
>>
>>2786416

That still doesn't sound complicated. I coded something fairly similar when I made an enemy that chased you in a 2D platformer, and it wasn't very difficult.

Unless there's much more to the long version, I don't see how that could've been the hardest part of VIII. Seems like an odd choice when you consider how cutting edge the prerendered cutscenes were, for one. You'd think creating the models and animations for those would've been a harder job.
>>
>>2786118

Demographics pandering to sell the game to a teen audience
>>
>>2786408
Wow, because CSS is so much better, right. Who in their right mind would use <center> when they can easily <div style="display:table;"><div style="display:table-cell;vertical-align:middle;"><div style="margin-left:auto;margin-right:auto;"></div></div></div>, amirite? Cancer like you is the reason why a simple page with three lines text is 2MB worth of javascript and other dreck.

>>
>>2785657
Enix was in worse shape than Square m8. If you look at the current line up of games and who work there, you realize it's mostly old Square guys. The reason for that is mostly that Enix big franshise, Dragon Quest was developed not by Enix by outside parties. For S-E their main brand is Final Fantasy, DQ is an outsourced brand that they get to distribute in the region that is profitable, Japan.
>>
>>2786309
Japanese culture is a culture of old people who glorify youthfulness because their lives suck. It's for that reason that 90% of Games and Japanese media in general have teens as their main characters. Hell they call 25 year old woman old in Japan.

In America childhood sucks compared to adulthood because we value freedom and that is something that is lacking when you are a kid. We want to be grown up and do grown up shit. That's why most American Characters in media are 20-30 something.

Triple triad is the best mini-game in any FF.

That makes up for everything in terms of not many sidequests.

They can make a whole fucking spinoff for FF8 about hunting down rare cards and playing to get them, and it would still be a solid 70-hour game.

has anyone tried triple triad online?

I get what you're saying. it's not absurd though. something like this might not have real ownership in a big corporation. the team disbands, the line item paid hosting for 20 years thinking they might reuse it but didn't. the domain is set to re-up automatically for a few bucks. i'd buy that they know but just don't care.

Not so much youth as childhood. 17 is like 25 over there. Japanese adults are like: "Remember when life was free and uncomplicated?" "Yes, ages six to eight are truly a man's glory years."
