I agree with you OP, but probably not for the same reasons.

I fucking love these guys, and I feel like these seven we got (plus Nebby and Varg) make for a good concept with cool designs, but shouldn't overstay their welcome.

It's weird how normal Nihilego and Pheromosa look compared to the rest, including Necrozma and Cosmoem.

I want more.

I actually really like them. It was a way for GF to make big, crazy, totally weird monsters for once. People may not like that they're so different design-wise, but it's not like things in nature are made by the same "artist". The fact that Pokemon from other dimensions even EXIST is a very interesting idea. Somewhere in Ultra Space, Xurkitree are the trees of the world. Pretty neat to think about.

I really don't think we'll ever see more Ultra Beasts in the future, though. They will probably just stay with this gen, like Megas. Probably.

Good concept, spotty execution. I feel like they could be built upon and done a lot better. Have them appear earlier in the story and disturb the natural order of things much earlier on. Showcase their dangerous and invasive nature and have all four Tapu come out to fight them.

They were different and explained to be different, I never disliked the designs, they just didn't look very pokemon like, by now I'm used to them and like to use a few of them so I hope they stay.

I think they would've been more imposing as unobtainable boss monsters. Being able to catch and keep them like any other Pokemon when they genuinely don't belong in our universe feels wrong.

I instantly fell in love with the demonic puppy dragon that is Guzzlord. Whether is he viable or not he has stolen my heart.

I was wary when they were promoted as weird new "other" creatures, but the fact that they're basically just Pokemon with a unique origin makes them fine by me. The dumb pun names make them real.

I do feel like making them so elusive and special might hurt longevity though. By Gen 10 is anybody going to care enough to have special UB encounters on top of the requisite forced in past-Gen legendaries and such?

This. They're great ideas that need better execution and more lore.

Forget Ultra Space; I want to go through the Ultra Wormhole and end up in a nightmare version of Alola with Xurkitree trees, Nihilego replacing Tentacool/cruel, Buzzwole replacing all bug mons, etc. Throw in unsettling music and sudden ambush encounters and we've got something.

I think they were a pretty good teaser. Problem is, that's not usually how Pokemon works. If it wasn't expanded on in the game it was introduced in, that usually means they won't just continue from where we left off next gen.
Shoving them all at the end of post-game was silly since this is probably the last we will see of them. They should have just trickled them in as you progressed through the game and had them act as more difficult totem style bosses, like the initial fight with Nihilego.
Well, let's hope for some weird reason they do expand on their story and add more Ultra Beasts next gen, akin to Zygarde getting expanded upon this gen. Because USUM isn't likely to add much.

Nigga one of the few things we've seen about the games is that UBs (or at least Kartana so yes, all the UBs) are getting attention. You can write off whatever we'll get as not being enough right now if you want, but the idea is certainly being expanded upon.

I'm hoping for the USUM Malie Library to have secret UB books tucked away until the postgame, like they did with Lillie's diary.

I love them, from concept to design, even though not one of them would ever make it onto a "favourite Pokemon" list, if that makes sense. I agree that I don't want them to make more in future generations, but like some other folks have said, it's because I want them to stay special.

My only problem with them is that they revealed every single fucking one before the game came out, and the quest to obtain them was fairly weak. I expected the ones besides Nihilego to play a role in the story, and they didn't. How the fuck do you come to the conclusion that, along with showing the entire damn game before it comes out, you should also show off all of your post-game content? Just the dumbest shit.

I honestly think that the UB code names should have been their identifier for the community but since we basically discovered them in-game we should have gotten to name them for our in-game Pokedex. It was pretty silly to catch these mysterious fuckers no one has ever seen before and they're already named.

Killed by no plot reference and some pretty shitty design, both aesthetically and mechanically.

You literally only fight Nihilego once in the entire main game - I was unlucky enough to have a Wimpod as my lead at that point in the game so the battle ended on turn 1 when Wimp Out activated - and no other UBs appear again in the main story, at least none that you have any interaction with.

The designs are pretty off-the-wall, which works in a "they're weird because they're from from another universe!" way, but also fails in a "what the fuck am i actually looking at here" kind of way. I still look at Necrozma and struggle to make out any of his features.

The fact that they are distinctly "not Pokemon", but also function in all the same ways as Pokemon right down to being catchable in balls, shows that GameFreak didn't really know what they were doing with them. They should have all had god-tier stats and been actually "bosses", not Trio-tier sub-legendaries with no clear place or purpose.

Overall, I hope they don't come back.

I like Nihilego because it genuinely seems like a jellyfish; just floating around and taking advantage of what it comes in contact with. Guzzlord is pretty cool too, since it's such an unusual design. I just wish they were a bit stronger. I do like the ideas of Pokemon from other universes/worlds/dimensions, and I hope the concept is further used. Simply being palette swaps of real animals with gimmicks is getting boring.

I think they're great, but I think it's too bad that there's a limited amount of them in-game. I'd rather be able to go to ultra space and encounter and catch them there as well, as well as having larger areas in ultra space to explore.

I like their designs, really "otherworldy".
My only complain is that they appear in the pokédex and they have "normal" types.
Since they are not creatures of our world they shouldn't have a Dex number, and they should all be ??? type, or maybe add some other strange types that apply only to them, like ???, 0101, ----!, ##'M#, poKèTRN and so on...
Things that really makes you realize that you're in a sea of trouble and that these things are not supposed to be here.

I think they look stupid but then again they're supposed to look unconventional. Their implementation was incredibly lazy as well, most other legendary Pokemon at least had their own location but GF just turned the Ultra Beasts into random encounters. Either way I'm sure we'll never see them again after this generation since they're supposed to be exclusive to Alola, so that's good.

I'm the other anon and that's not what I said. I said that their designs are a mess, not that they're uninspired. You look at one and your eyes don't know where to focus; for many of them its not clear where their face is (even if they have one) or how their body works. Again this works in the sense that they're "supposed" to be weird and out-there but also, aesthetically, they're just not that appealing at all.

Nihilego is just about the only one that I'd say doesn't have an unpleasant design to look at.

I love their backstory, I love how they truly feel like "outsiders" to the Pokemon universe rather than garbage Yokais/Digimons.

Truth is most legendaries since gen 4 can be retconned and the game would only improve. Ultra Beasts actually feel like a coherent attempt at establishing a mythos around new Pokemon rather than just shoveling more shitty legends.

I think they're awesome, but due to how closely tied they are specifically to the SM plot I would rather they stayed that way and we didn't get any more next gen. Although I'm a hypocrite for saying that because Megas were closely tied to Gen VI and I was on my knees for more of those in Gen VII.

Well I don't agree with that either. It's pretty clear what you're looking at for all of them. What's so hard to establish when looking at Pheromosa, Buzzwole, Kartana, Celesteela, Xurkitree? They all have clearly designed heads and bodies that are distinguishable from afar. if you didn't think pokemon stopped looking like pokemon before, you will now after seeing the ultra beasts. digimon from the digimon dimension have been invading the pokemon universe subtly over the years, gradually, with each generation, as the designs slowly changed... and now they just said fuck it and dumped a pile of actual digimon into the pokemon universe. i just can't reconcile creatures like this with the existence of creatures like rattata, charmander, or caterpie.
