The whole incentive is that you become the strongest trainer by beating the elite four (so you need to carry on and beat all the gym leaders). If that doesn't drive you then why the fuck do you play Pokemon?

This is one of my favorite parts of Emerald, actually. There's a good amount of open exploration once you unlock Surf.

I just played in the past few days and I'm commenting a few points.
I really liked the elite four. It was so cool. The last Elite four member used the pseudo-legendary of the region, a Dragon/Flying pokemon. I also like the Ice and Ghost ladies as well.

I don't want to keep going immediately when I beat Norman, but that's because the entire area you've passed through opens up suddenly. You can grab a bunch of shit previously unavailable to you like the area north of Meteor Falls and the whole sea routes between Route 104 and Slateport, plus a few other little things. It's one of the best parts of any RPG when the world suddenly opens up like it does in Emerald.

The remake butchered everything good about this scene by putting a mandatory teleport directly to your destination after the fight. Ohmori completely missed the ENTIRE FUCKING POINT of having the player wander around taking whatever path they choose out of the ones available to them by just teleporting you there as if a focus test group thought it was too hard to have control over where you go in a video game.
