I know who some of those are like Tetsuya and Masamune because I was on Serebii in 2005 and the Japanese episode titles shown had those names in then, The dub used to be like 40 episodes behind at the time.

Fun fact: Masamune is voiced by Nowaza, Goku's Japanese voice actor.

And in the dub, Morrison is voiced by Sean Schemmel, Goku's english dub voice actor. I can't believe 4kids actually did this purposely, they must have known.

I still don't get why the writers gave Ash a Gible at the tail-end of DP. I thought it was going to evolve fast like a quick powerhouse for the Sinnoh league and it never did. Then when Iris appeared and she liked dragons, I thought for sure Ash would bring back his Gible to meet Iris as it was his only dragon pokemon back then. But no that didn't happen in BW either.

Now here we are 7 years removed from DP....and Ash's Gible is just...at Oak's. How do you give Ash a pokemon like that and abandon it? It was literally only around for 6 months too because DP was nearly over.

And let's just get this out of the way, because there seems to be a huge misconception that Litten is some capable battler. It's not, in every battle it's been in it's struggled the most out of all of Ash's Pokémon. It barely gets any screentime and the most important battle it's been in thus far, it was completely manhandled and wouldn't have stood a chance without Rowlett's help. This is a fact.

Rowlett may very well have the least personality of Ash's grass types, beyond maybe Turtwig.

That's because they mostly never spoke out of time during XY. With the generation change and the lack of moderation, they moved the line and pretended they could always monopolize the thread with their unrelated anime shit at all times.

They can't, only during and on hours before the stream (and maybe a little bit after). It's an unspoken agreement that's always been there: these shows can only be talked about during those times because they happen to be anime that airs right before Pokemon. At this point, 40 episodes into SM Ashs team is more developed personality wise then his XY/DP teams.

XY had Pikachu, Froakie, Fletchling, and Hawlucha by episode 40. Fletchling had 1 episode really dedicated to it where it got developement and that was only in its evolution episode. Hawlucha was a new face to the group and was an eccentric Pokemon at the very start. Pikachu was Pikachu, its personality didn't change it just became a stronger battler. Then there's Froakie who was the most developed of Ashs Pokemon personalitywise, aside from it the rest of Ashs XY team - by XY40 - weren't very well developed.

I need to watch DP since it's been a long time since I watched the starting episodes, but from what I remember DP had Staravia, one of Ashs regional birds that always is completely bland in personality. Turtwig who I don't think had a very good character arc within the first 40 episodes, and Aipom who was just kind of there for the ride.

So far in SM we've had character arcs for Litten and Rockruff, both which deal with their individual personalities which were established early on and remained consistent up until their development started where it began to shift and change. Rowlets development has been something that's not specifically said but seen in the show. Its still lazy, but compared to the slow lumbering and sleepy bird that it was when Ash caught it, its turned into a sleepy bird who has gotten physically stronger and more energetic as well as looking forward to fighting.

Ash only having 3 captures to this point and having a majority of SM focusing on his Pokemon rather then random CoTD shit that does nothing, has helped the series immensely for the Pokemon in it.
