When PWT was revealed they've used Brock and Misty (among others) to promote the feature
Now Brock and Misty are back in the anime and the games show us Lt Surge's gym replica
I doubt PWT will happen in USUM (afterall Red and Blue are already Tree bosses and Tree's gimmick are few old characters) but i think all Kanto gym leaders will appear in USUM
Kukui in the past traveled through Kanto and battled the gyms. He probably invited them all to Alola and we'll have them as extra cameos and more characters to the Battle Tree

Tree isnt about experts because there's still a lot of types missing, its just about few familiar encounters

Brock and Misty's return in the anime is celebrating the anime's 20th anniversary. Red and Blue were those cameos for the games last year. I really doubt anything big will happen with USM. They really seem like games that are recollecting the discarded pieces of SM because those games were rushed to meet the 20th anniversary.

Bringing back 7 Kanto characters doesnt sound big at all (Blue is the 8th leader). Afterall SM brought back 10 old characters
If anything it sounds cheap enough for GF to do it: bring back only few and Kanto only because Kanto shilling knows no boundaries
