Have you ever seen a Barbie movie? Now compare that to the atrocity that is the pokemon series. Barbie is maybe an airhead but she knows how to analyse a situation and understands what she has to do to get shit done. She overcomes her hardships and accomplishes her goals. Also, she is pretty modest about it all.

Barbie is a better role model than Ash ever could be.

"It's ok to fail" is one thing, and a good lesson for children.
But the whole "never learn from your failures" is a big deal.
Though that isn't really a big deal for the anime creators.... because Japs don't use TV for teaching values like Americans do.

The only reason Ash loses every league is because keeping him from progressing means they can keep using him as a means of marketing the series to kids who haven't played it yet and get them to buy more games, cards, plushes etc whilst also having a typical protag who they don't have to retire due to him never ageing or progressing.

Yes. Else, there exist no such reason for a new generation to start and Ash to travel a whole region to fulfil his purpose. Unless you pull a generation like Advanced Generation and play with the story a bit - winning the league, however losing the Battle Frontier-kind of arc. and reailzing he needs to train and travel more to become a master.

Usually Ash's last fight in a League has him fighting at his best against someone who simply outmatches him, but after so many times, people are becoming tired of the cycle. Anime produces won't change it though. And despite the fact that winning a league wouldn't make him a master, no one has ever had him win a League originating from the games and that trend will likely continue.

Ash, with the exception of BW, has been consistently doing better at each league since he started. He even made it to the finals for the first time last gen, because he kept going despite his constant failures. If you want to make it to the top of anything, you have to be ready to fail over and over and over again.

The BW games even touched on this as a theme with Cheren, who had the talent to become a champion but just didn't have the motivation to keep going through his failures.
