When will team rocket join Ash and replace his companions already?

They have been around longer than Misty and Brock and at this point it doesnt even seem like they are evil or anything.

Imagine those two wearing casual clothing and Meowth and Pikachu being best buddies.

It's a catch-22.

If all of a sudden they were to become buddy-buddy with Ash, they'd no longer be loveable losers and become as polarizing as any of Ash's other companions.
