To be honest, I'm expecting it to be something like that. I have nothing against Kanto, but the gen 1 pandering has become sickening. I probably wouldn't get it unless it turns out to be an amazing game--which I highly fucking doubt it'll be anything better than decent.

If Game Freak want to dick suck their older regions, then that's fine. But at least change it up a bit. I would be fine if gen 8 threw out references to Johto, Sinnoh, Unova, or Kalos, but scale it back enough so that the region takes up most of the limelight. Alola felt more like a bootleg Kanto than Kalos did, somehow.

They could make it a "20 years later" scenario, since Red and Blue are adults in SM. I mean, a lot can change in 20 years.

I wouldn't mind it. Kanto hate is so knee-jerk here now. The only reason I'm growing tired of it in the new games is because it feels shoehorned in, kind of half-assed, and it's getting in the way of the actually new stuff I want, and the diverse selection of returning Pokemon I hope for. If they just went all in on a brand new all Kanto all the time game, none of those complaints hold any water.

It's currently the most out of date region, and I'd like to see what they would do with it in a console-level remake or sequel. On top of that, Kanto's world design stands in contrast to linearity and story-focus, the very same shit people constantly complain about in the more recent games. It is Gamefreak, so they could always just mess it all up, but it's not like there's less of a chance of that with a new game.

And I'd always cling to the hope that a new Kanto game would get most of it out of their systems and they'd make something totally new on the rebound, but that might just be wishful thinking.

Gamefreak have said they're going to continue with remakes in the future, that could mean a lot of things however, FRLG remakes - the games are old and we all know how they love to pander to the genwuners.
DP is the oldest of the games that don't have remakes and all of the nods towards gen 4 lately could be a confirmation.

Look at sun and moon, majority of the fucking region is Kanto Pokemon, Kanto Alola Forms etc.
