Golisopod without EE wouldn't even be OP though. It would be no different from Tangrowth in OU, splashable and reliable, but not broken.

Emergency Exit isn't a handicap in the same way that Slow Start, Truant, and Defeatist are.

Plus with First Impression, Golisopod's playstyle is designed around the ability.

it's not splashable, sure, but it's also not a bad Pokémon by any stretch. It's built around a specific playstyle, and works wonders in specific team configurations. I, myself, use one to great success on my VGC team.

Is this a joke? Mega Scizor bulk, priority out the ass, resists five common attacking types, Leech Life recovery, good neutral STAB. It would be strong as hell with a useless ability as opposed to a hindering one, possibly broken with something like Guts.

I'd argue it's worse than defeatist at least. There's been so many times where Golisopod was literally unable to do anything because it gets attacked by a faster priority user sending it out, or an attack did a little mroe damage than I expected, or an unexpected crit forces me out before I can do anything, and then I just die to rocks on the way back in.

At least an archeops can get a nice chunk of damage off when before it gets weakened, and the buffed pinch wiki berries help it out

Thanks to fairy's prevalence, I'd argue bug is worse, it's not 2010 any more.

Poison is now SE against two types, vs. bugs three types, and the three types bug is SE against aren't that hard to hit SE otherwise, like dark/psychic/grass.

7 types resist bug, only 4 resist poison. poison has a type immune to it which balances a little better, but fairy being fucking everywhere makes poison an extremely viable coverage move. Nobody ever uses bug as a coverage move, because if you want to hit a grass type, ice or flying is better, if you want to hit psychic, plenty of special attackers get shadow ball, if you want to hit dark, use fairy or fighting for much better coverage. People only get a false sense of impression that bug is decent because there are a few good users of uturn and that's it

I run monotype bug all the time and it is extremely rare I even bother with bug type attacks. A couple of special attackers will have bug buzz when their movepool doesn't have much else, and a couple of bugs can use leech life decently, but almost everything resists bug.

Game Freak's logic: "Wimpod is a wimpy Pokemon that runs away when it is afraid. Let's keep that theme for its evolution, except it will be called a 'crisis prevention' instead."

Basically Golisopod retains Wimpod's cowardly nature, but it is mature enough to disguise its cowardice as a strategic retreat. Knowing that Golisopod is Guzma's signature Pokemon, it is appropriate for Golisopod to be just as opportunistic as he is.

The ability makes sense, but I wish Game Freak had enough sense to give it a different ability as well.
