It was a crit. I had Ponyta out which would take at least 3 turns to kill Chansey, so I switched to Machop to hopefully OHKO her, but first turn she got a crit and knocked it out.

Other than that I've missed a Shiny Pidgy in FireRed because it was my literal first encounter before receiving Pokeballs and and accidently killing a Relicanth out of habit while chain fishing, but nothing's ever came as close to this fucking thing

I always carry 300 Pokéballs at all times now. This scarred me for life.

This was the first shiny I missed, and to be fair I've had amazing luck in finding shinies lately, I found two while playing through SoulSilver (Rattata and Venonat) and one just as I started Platinum now which is dead, and this is in the same fucking month, kind of insane when I went gen 5, 6 and 7 while finding only one, a Ralts.

It's only fair I'd lose one in a ridiculous circumstance after getting such good luck. It's bizarre too because when the shiny Rattata appeared on SoulSilver at the beginning of the game I was ecstatic, got him, then a week later I told to myself "I'll catch a shiny today" jokingly, I wasn't serious, but then a shiny Venonat in the bug catching contest happened in the same play session. Now I start Platinum and there we go again, another shiny at the start. I don't know what the fuck is happening, but an innocent shiny Budew died for it.

Hey /vp/, I have a very serious problem. I’m fucking crying because of how stupid I am.

Okay, so my girlfriend was supposed to come over to my house today because I was going to go take her to a movie. She lives about 20 minutes away, and the movie we were supposed to see started at 4:15, which was in about 40 minutes. I figured “cool, I’ll just play Pokemon while I wait”.

So I’m playing Pokemon, and having a pretty damn good time. Anyway, she finally does show up, except she’s crying as she walks into my room. Instead of doing the right thing by comforting her, I half-focus on my game and her. She starts telling me her cat died, and just as she was getting into it, I get into a random encounter in my game.

A shiny pidgey. Holy shit. (For those of you who don’t know/care, shiny Pokemon have less than a 1/1,000 chance of appearing; 1/8192 to be exact.). I stare into my screen in amazement, yelling “holy shit, YES”, interrupting her mid-story. She sobs more, and she starts to yell “You don’t even fucking care! YOU JUST WANT TO PLAY YOUR FUCKING GAME!” I’m still looking at my screen, still focusing on catching my shiny Pidgey, when she walks over, and tosses the game against the wall. I run over and pick up my DS hoping that nothing has changed on screen, and quickly noticed that she broke it. My system and my shiny Pidgey, gone forever.

I start screaming every obscenity I know, and started flailing my arms around. I didn’t know she was behind me, and apparently I backhanded her in the face while I was being a dumbass and swinging my fists around. She yells out “FUCK YOU”, and runs out of my house in tears.

What have I done? I’ve fucked up so badly, and I need to know how to approach her. I don’t want a game of Pokemon to be responsible for ruining my best relationship ever. Help me, /vp/.

I've got one.

I spent 4 hours after that hunting another shiny ditto while my bf listened to me complain. I got one thank God and now I keep it in my PC safe and sound, forgetting the mistakes of the past.

Riley's Lucario was very kind one time and brutally murdered the shiny onix opposing us while I was trying to KO to the graveler next to it

I encountered a Shiny Onix in the cave with Mira. I was stupid and thought that there's no way it could be caught since it was a double battle, so I fled. Later I realized that I could kill the other wild Pokémon and still try to catch it, but there would have been a chance it'd have been killed by Kadabra anyway.
