What're some surprisingly underappreciated mons?
I remember when this thing was revealed people absolutely loved it, but I barely hear people talking about it anymore.

HP and speed are too low to properly make use of its defenses. It hits hard but it is hit hard in return, and since its ability is form-changing, it basically plays abilityless AND turns into a weaker magikarp sooner or later since it gets worn down and has no recovery of its own.

Technicalities aside, it is still one of the coolest mons this gen, but being not as good in battle as you'd hope doesn't make it any favors.
>>
It sucks ass in competitive play.
>>
>>33359931

>this could have been mega combee

Fuck it
>>
/vp/ struggles to discuss mons that
>are bad in competitive
>lack a good amount of art

Wishiwashi checks both boxes, but that doesn't mean I don't love it, just that there's not much to say
>>
Nuzlocke god
>>
I like that fish a lot. And its very good ingame. Its just that most people only care for CP and thats where this mon cant shine...

>Rest
>Sleep Talk to continue attacking
>Great offensive stats, Water and Ice are good coverage
Pretty standard I guess, yeah
>>
>>33361850
Maybe go fully defensive and consider u turn over ice beam.

I'm also playing around with a physical set. So far I'm finding alolan marowak makes a good team mate.
>>
>>33361892
I appreciate Palossand.

Maybe if schooling ability sharply but temporarily raised solo wishiwashi's evasion there might be something here?

Wishiwashi-School @ Leftovers
Ability: Schooling
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Double Team
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

this is better

I would love a set like this one to work but I honestly think Wishiwashi isnt well suited for a rest talk set. This has two reasons:

First it isnt as bulky as you would expect because its hp are very low.
Second is its ability. Since its easy to drop its hp fast because of low hp it wont survive long after you click rest. Id rather use an full assault set with offensive attacks and asault vest or a set with offensive attacks, protect and leftovers. It sadly isnt designed to stall out opponents.
>>
>>33359931
Competative has more influence over a mon's long term popularity than /vp/ will usually admit.
>>
>>33359968
This.

Not to mention, it's movepool is really shallow, so it's not even really useful as a nuke, which seems to be its intended purpose.. though, its offense, while good, are nothing mind breaking anyways.
Its a fucking awesome pokemon, but yeah.. kinda garbo.
>>
>>33362040
Its definitely not made for stall but I'm trying to make it as useful as it can be with its offensive stats and water type bulk.
>>
>>33361850
50% berry set is better.
>>
>>33362054
Yes I was trying the same with my suggestions... I just think it works best with a set that uses as much offensive presence as possible. Maybe chesto-resto would fit it. That way it can hit hard, use one more offensive attack (of course you can combine this set with sleep talk too) and its sleeping-phase isnt as exploitable cause it wakes up instantly to cause more havoc...
>>
It has great bulk and offenses, but no HP or Speed to take advantage of it. It will likely get KO'd without doing anything or revert back to its wimpy form. It needs some way of speed control like Tailwind or Trick Room to make it any use of it, and even then it might not do that much because you can stall it out.
In Singles it can really pack a punch, but switching in and out wastes turns. Hazards are a bitch too.
In Doubles, you can immediately take advantage of speed control, but it's most likely to get taken down quicker since you're fighting TWO mons. Yeah, it gets Muddy Water and Surf, but they won't deal as much damage (you could hax out with accuracy drops though).
It's mostly dead weight and becomes even more so under 25% HP. You'd have to give it a Berry, Lefties or some other way of recovery like Rest or Lunar Dance if you want to continue using it.

tl;dr: It needs A LOT of support to be of any usage and even then it's dead weight. Pretty much outclassed by a lot of stuff.

Just thought about it, could one with Protect work with a Rain Dance-Trick Room Oranguru as a partner in doubles?

>Double Team
>>
>>33362251
In the Battle Tree, sure. Against other players? Most likely not. They can stall out TR and the rain, or even change it. Don't forget everyone runs Protect. It doesn't help that even with a recovery, it can go down in one turn by being double targeted. The berry it might've been carrying wouldn't even proc.

Oranguru is also susceptible to Taunt, Roar and is usually taken care of pretty quickly. Most Z moves destroy it, so redirection is very welcome and might even guarantee a free switch in for Wishi. That does take up a team slot though. Instruct helps a lot if the setup is done correctly.

You also would need some rain setter, and that can hinder team building at times. So you would basically need to run 2-3 mons to make Wishi usable, that alone takes up 4 slots. The other two will need synergize well with it.
>>
>>33361892
Objectmons are always controversial. I love Palossand though.
>>
>>33359931
One of my strongest mons in my trick room team. As long as you can recover his HP, you're golden.
>>
>>33362251
Works fine for me with the right berry.
