Pokémon Stadium actually sounds like the right comparison. The first competitive battling events even used Stadium for their matches. And it's not like you're rated on how well you played the game itself, how quickly you beat it or how many trainer stars you have or whatever. All the officials do is check that your Pokémon are valid (no WonderEyes, no 999 stats, etc) and then you battle. Just like Stadium.

Fun fact: VGC guys will check your 3DS for homebrew, and they do this by booting it up holding multiple buttons so even "stealth" CFW will get you caught, because they always have an emergency payload button you can press on boot and I don't think you can disable it on Luma. If your 3DS has any unauthorized code on it it's an instant DQ.

It's absolutely not allowed, save editing is completely against the rules, regardless of end result. They don't care about perfectly genned Pokemon because they can't enforce/catch them, but that is irrelevant to the duty of every participant to abide by those rules. I'm impressed some can do this. I gave hacking an honest try back in gen 6 and I tried to go with this mindset, but it didn't work, in the back of my head I always knew I could just edit anything I want and give myself every single thing I want instantly, which absolutely destroyed the point of playing.

It's the slippest of slippery slopes for me. If I can just hack it all, then there's no reason not to go all in. That's why I don't bother anymore, to preserve the fun and reward I have in the games.

Their "checks" don't mean shit.

They catch the obvious stuff like illegal moves, items, unreleased stuff etc. but as long as your mons are battle legal they don't really give a shit.

Of course the master detectives of the internet will sperg out at any player using an illegal Pokeball and they're extra attentive after the Rey Rizzo incident - the fact that the check for ball legality wasn't there in the first place goes to show how much worth GF thought it was.

I sometimes wonder if it's will-full ignorance that makes people believe that all of the 100's of perfect IV / EV Tapu Koko's present at the VGC this year were caught via soft resets. Full teams, especially those with very specific Hidden Power sets take a long time to breed and train up, even with all the streamlining added in Gen VI+.

Since most players change their team often it's pretty clear that pretty much every competitive battler either injects, edits, trades or in some rare cases breeds from 6IV injected parents to get their teams.

It's like a well known not-so-secret, everyone knows pretty much all the legendaries are probably edited but as long as they don't exist outside of regular battle parameters it's like a live and let live scenario.

This is the one thing that really bugs me about anti-injectors. I've "hacked" in every generation since 4, either through Powersaves, QR Code Injection, Homebrew or PokeGTS, and I have never once had my console brick or been banned from WiFi.

Missingno. can do two things:
1. Temporarily break sprites, which undoes itself when you turn your game off and on again
2. Permanently break your hall of fame data

It can't brick your game, or stop it working, or wipe your save file, or anything like that.

I think pokemon are meant to be nurtured rather than used and discarded when they are no longer "useful". Can you imagine if Ash genetically modified his pokemon or hacked one in. It is the bond between pokemon and trainer that is at the heart of pokemon. Anyone who artificially creates a pokemon is playing God and need to take a long look in the mirror and really ask themselves if it is worth it to be so selfish.
