It is literally the 15th episode of the anime, so yes, you're probably underage if you don't remember it. It is also a fairly memorable episode since Ash trades away his beloved Butterfree for a random Raticate he just saw in action.
Not remembering Beedrill or not being aware of it at all is perfectly fine since it is from a Johto episode and many people had grown tired of the anime by then.

There's really no room here for a decent defensive core. You could go with Goodra or Snorlax for special bulk alongside Gliscor, but HO is his best bet.
I'd like to stick U-turn on more things as well. Everything here is frail, but can usually survive a resisted hit and hit back harder. It would require some playtesting to get the coverage options right.
