ORAS is only worth bothering with if you want to get back into the series and need a lot of legendaries or hidden abilities. Otherwise skip it. Just wait for Ultra SM.

The conclusion I'm arriving from this thread is that I wouldn't enjoy ORAS or SM giving my subjective personal taste.

There is still time to decide if I want to preorder Ultra, which if SM was good this should be similar at least
