XY spoiled us. We got right into the action. We got the first gym badge in about an hour of gameplay.

With SM, the first island was a bitch due to all of the tutorials AND cutscenes. You had to do 2 locked events before you can even start your adventure. (First day and second day.)

Fortunately though the second island was a breeze since the trials were very close to one another and there were hardly any major cutscenes in between.
