Pokémon is a game about collecting shit. As such, you'll get a lot of these "collectors edition" game releases that add literally nothing, but are great for the avid player and collectionist.
Now, yes, I agree, Game Freak could do with updating their older games more often than just for "bug fixes", to fix compatibility with newer games and such.
