Why is Cosmoem the first mon in 3 gens to have a split evolution?

because the chart is retarded, whith 2 form changes, ad 1 split evolution. OP said form changes are non topic

I do wish they'd make split evos a bit less scarce, I think they add a lot of variety and depth. I guess Cosmoem had the honor of ending that dry spell because they wanted a legendary duo that's part of an evolutionary family, but hopefully it's not an exception and we'll be seeing more of these (and with regular Pokémon, too) in the future.

As for cross-gen evos, they might as well have abandoned the idea completely at this point, but I hope I'm wrong. It was always exciting to see an old Pokémon get a new evolution, especially if it was a favorite.

I think a better question is why Lycanroc is on there, since technically it's the same species in both cases, even if the conditions are different.

To be fair though, I always thought male and female Meowstic would kinda make more sense as separate Pokémon.

We just had Sylveon in Gen 6.
