Is there any reason to still play these games these days? Colosseum and GoD had story mode, but what do the Stadium games have to offer?

Gym Leader tower.

Battling AI trainers who, in cooperation with the game's RNG, cheat like a motherfucker.

They're basically gen 1 and 2 battle facilities.
>>
>>33256524
>Colosseum and GoD had story mode
A short story mode. And a limited number of available pokemon.

Stadiums have: great battles (the hardest battle of any pokemon game is still the Fisher battle in Pika cup), many cups (you can use pretty much any pokemon, even the babies) rentals, 10/10 announcer, gym leader castle (leaders don't use monotypes), mini games.

Stadium 1 and 2 are amazing games.
>>
>>33256524

They're basically $60 battle facilities

If you have a working cart, (or an emulator) yes. They're super battle facilities with minigames and extra features.

If you don't then you have a challenging game using rental Pokemon.
>>
>GoD
Fuck off

An announcer to start with. Both GC games are silent. Battle rev doesn't have the same amount of content the stadium games have either. I would say it's worth a try.

Gameboy Tower which was like a crippled super gameboy that can only play Pokemon.
>>
>>33258177
I played Stadium on the newest version of Project 64 recently and it worked a lot better than it used to. The only real problem was that the Pokemon pictures during the before and after battle screens where it shows you and your opponent's teams wouldn't display correctly.
>>
Lots of fun with friends whether you're doing minigames, battling each other, or cooperating on Gym Leader Castle and/or cups
>>
>>33258227
I actually couldn't afford a gameboy as a kid so my parents got me Stadium 2, but I didn't know Gameboy Tower existed, and thought I'd forever have to settle with rental Pokemon. Then I found out and got Pokemon Silver.
Pretty sad that 95% of my playtime in gen 2 was on the damn Stadium 2 cart acting as a Gameboy emulator, but it was fun anyway. Stadium 2 was a big part of gen 2 for me as a result, so I got used to meaty endgame/facilities pretty early.

Download Project64 to emulate Stadium, and download a GBA emulator for Red, Blue, or Yellow. Start a new game in RBY and find your save file, download Pikasav, and use that to inject whatever Pokemon you want into your RBY save. Go into your Project64 controller settings to select the Transfer Pak, the RBY rom file you're using, and the RBY save file. Start Stadium and you should now be able to use and register whatever Pokemon you injected into the RBY file.

>>

>>
>>33256524
It's a pretty fun multiplayer if you have some friends who are up for it. Goes down well with normies who haven't played a main series game since GS.
>>
Meh.

I actually prefer Colosseum. In addition to the Story Mode, it has a Battle Mode of it's own that's pretty lengthy and satisfying to me.
>>
RBY/GSC/Stadium 1 & 2 are the best Pokemon experience you can have. It's the best the franchise has to offer all together like that. Do it now if you haven't already.
You'll need
>N64 ($60 bucks)
>RBY/GSC carts ($10~ each)
>Stadium 1 & 2 carts ($30~ each)
>N64 Pokemon game pack (for using the gameboy games with Stadium) ($5~)
>GBC x2 ($20 ea.)
>link cable ($10)
Go do it now. Get some rechargeable batteries while you're at it.
>>
>>33256524
I am more interested in their history in the 90s competitive scene and localization changes
than playing much but
>>33256532
Anon has a good point.
>>
>>33257051
If you use rental Pokémon, it gives you a chance to fight them at the same level. Though it only gets challenging after a while
>>
>>33256524

The funnest part was to play the game with your gameboy team

I love how everyone in your team has different colors instead of just their normal one

Yes!!!! Stadium and Stadium 2 animations absolutely oozed with character. So many memorable little quirks that really fleshed out each and every design. A far cry from modern Pokemon animations, which are kinda cute at best and literally static at worst. Great now I miss my n64 again

Try eBay. Retail resellers jack the price like crazy on everything. Not like eBay isn't overpriced, but you won't find cheaper unless you hit up yard sales and get lucky, and sometimes craigslist of the lister doesn't know the value.
>>
>>33256524

Enjoyment.
>>
>>33262800
Because FOR SOME REASON that feature is locked behind R-2 in Stadium 2 PLUS you have to have caught 150 Pokemon on each cart you want to trade with.

Get a link cable.

Pro tip: you cannot trade GBC games with two GBAs, at least one system has to be a GBC to trade.
>>
>>33266637
>Pro tip: you cannot trade GBC games with two GBAs, at least one system has to be a GBC to trade

False, I've done it. You just need the proper cable. There's a MadCatz cable with a "GBC-GBA" switch, which you put on GBC to trade in this case
>>
I don't know if this will be a particularly popular opinion, but I would like another Stadium game to be how you get certain special items like the Red/Blue/Adamant/Lustrous/Griseous Orbs, Burn/Douse/Shock/Chill Drives, Gracidea, DNA Splicers, Reveal Glass, Mega Diancite, Prison Bottle, Secret Sword for Keldeo, Relic Song for Meloetta, Dragon Ascent for Rayquaza, certain Mega Stones, etc. Unless a Pokémon is already readily available in a game, I just think it's kind of forced to include characters who can give those items or teach those moves. Why is there a guy in Alola who can teach Rayquaza Dragon Ascent? Instead of having this drip feed for the unavailable Mega Stones in Sun and Moon, why not just have a Stadium game that can transfer specific ones to specific games? For example, Mawilite should be transferrable to Sun and Moon where it isn't naturally available, but not to a game where it can be obtained normally in-game. And make all these special items rewards for beating specific challenges in the Stadium game. Like if you do a boss battle against Mewtwo and win, Mewtwo now becomes a rental Pokémon and you unlock Mewtwonite X and Mewtwonite Y for Mystery Gift transfer. A 3v3 battle against an NPC with Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina holding their respective items where winning lets you use them as rental Pokémon and transfer those items to a game that can't normally get them.
>>
I want a new game like these on switch.
>>
The power-creep wasn't as big.
That and the 251 first mons are still the best looking ones, mainly because they drew them with Sugi's old style
>>
>>33266817
Also
>Pichu/Pikachu with Surf or Fly
>Victini with V-create
And there should be regular move tutors in the game as well, though move tutors should still be in the regular games.
I also wouldn't mind if the game started out like Battle Revolution where you didn't have many rental Pokémon, but you continually unlock new sets as you progress until you have all 802 Pokémon plus forms for rental. Win the Basic Dragon Cup to unlock Dratini, Bagon, Gible, Axew, Deino, Goomy, and Jangmo-o. Win the Intermediate Dragon Cup to unlock Dragonair, Shelgon, Gabite, Fraxure, Zweilous, Sliggoo, and Hakamo-o. Win the Advanced Dragon Cup to unlock Dragonite, Salamence, Garchomp, Haxorus, Hydreigon, Goodra, and Kommo-o. Win the Mega Dragon Cup to unlock Altaria, Druddigon, Mega Altaria, Mega Salamence, and Mega Garchomp along with their Mega Stones.

ur mum with my cable it didn't work unless a GBC was involved
>>
>>33256938
Reminder PBR was originally far more ambitious but Nintendo forced them to get it out for Wii launch in Japan
>>
>>33262844
There aren't pokemon battles in Mario party, anon.
>>
If you trade a glitch Pokemon to the first Stadium game, it becomes a substitute doll. It's an odd feature
>>
I like to use the rentals to beat the game. It's very tough and fun. Wish we could rent pokemon again somehow in gen 7. I don't think we've had rentals since Platinum(I could be wrong)
>>
>>33268666
Well HGSS has rentals too but that's because the BF is literally copied from Platinum, so you are right but you aren't.

Anyway, I think instead of playing the VC remaster of GS I'll actually emulate them along with Stadium 2, it should be a much better experience. I'll still be able to transfer my Pokemon to USUM when PkHex inevitably updates to mimic the Pokebank transfer anyway.
