TCG's pretty stale too, unfortunately. Just the same few cards dominating the meta because they're that fucking good.
All and all, you're better off just hopping off the ride and playing another Monster-catching Game.
Either that or ROMHacks.

Have you watched the new anime? It may not be incredibly action oriented but the show itself is the best Pokémon has been in years. It's fun and cute and all the characters are really likable.
