They are both trash mechanics that were invented just to be hype machines for little kids to get boners for. Marketing tools if you will.

Attacks need to be more than just strong flashy moves.

Eh, they're okay to me. Just not worth prioritizing over Megas.

Pokemon was ruined when mega evolutions were introduced. XY ruined so much of Pokemon it's probably why it's seen as the worst generation.

No, megas were a mistake, it created a new kind of power creep and it was given to a lot of pseudos and legendaries which is such a stupid thing to do.
Z moves for the most part are lame, but at least it's a better balanced gimmick

Z moves are better from gamefuck's perspective because they can be applied universally without even much balancing work so it means they can be lazy fucks and still generate hype with a couple exclusive final fantasy cutscene moves here and there
