I'll admit that gen 7 designs are definitely up there, but I believe that gen 5 and 4 designs were among the best in the series as well. Gen 6 was the worst, no doubt.

What are you talking about? Gen 7 designs are trash. Disgusting fursona starters, way too much waifushit which is especially aggravating when it ruins an otherwise cool Pokémon like Salandit, uncategorized trash like Bewear, Palossand, Crabominable, Turtonator, Bruxish and more, and the single worst idea to ever disgrace the franchise in the form of Ultra Beasts.

And the Tapu are shit too, with their shoehorned-in features (Like Koko's weird shield arms that are just there because it has to be a rooster because lol idk haha), and otherwise featureless, plastic-like, smooth and thin limbs. They're as bad as the genies and they have absolutely NOTHING on the genius of design that is the beast trio.

The only good Pokémon to come out of this mess are Oranguru and Wishiwashi.

Toucanon, Vikavolt, Crabrawler, Salazzle line, Golisopod, Palossand line, Minior, Mimikyu, Bruxish, and the Komo'o line are pretty good.

The Ultra Beasts are good for what they are, but they're not Pokemon.

the starters are lame and their final forms are all terrible, Crabrawler is furstratingly imperfect, Tsareena is insultingly waifubait, Drampa looks like the dragon from Wind Waker but made out of clay and I hate it, the Legendaries all suck as is usual.

The rest are decent enough.

It's a fine gen.

Suicune's "ribbons" are tails that also double as a resemblance of blowing wind due to Suicune's connection with the north wind.

While I can't justify the other two, the thing is that they're small features of the designs, unlike Tapo Koko for example, who is almost entirely defined by its giant, inorganic and nonsensical shield arms.

Meanwhile the beast trio's manes - Raikou's thundercloud cape, Entei's mane that resembles volcanic smoke as it flows in the wind and Suicune's aurora borealis mane - are some of the coolest, most creative and best executed design elements in the entire series, and they look organic.

They really do look tacked on, and they could have been implemented better. Raikou's cape and its shitty metal zigzag tail come to mind.

At least the Tapu were consistent in the fact they looked like wooden dolls/avatars, which fit with being nature spirits. Looks a hell of a lot more natural than Suicune's weird plastic helmet or the toilet paper coming from its ass.
