Maybe teleportation is a very high leveled ability and takes a long time to master? I'll assume you'll need to train in telekinesis everyday to eventually lift larger objects and control them more freely.

I always hated this shit in the anime. The only thing that came close was when a pokemon got poisoned/paralyzed or even leech seeded and they were basically considered down for the entire battle
