Why do Pokémon regions have to be based on real-life geography? Can't Game Freak make something original?

Originally, Pokemon was just the real world. Starting in gen 2, it became fantasy Japan. It wasn't until gen 5 that they starting theming each region on a different country.

Once they run out of countries they will
>creatures based on creatures from the real world
>berries based on fruits from the real world
>regions based on locations from the real world
>character outfits based on outfits from popular people or popular animations
Working at GameFreak must be the easiest job in the world
>Traveling around the world doing tourism for "inspiration", paid vacations, visiting zoos, museums and hotels
>guaranteed stable position in a well paying comfortable "ideas" guy job for a best selling franchise
>your ideas arent even that good and pale in comparison to other franchises but you have loyal fans so it doesnt matter
>dont bother to optimize guys lol its gonna sell anyway
>haha I dont really know

Literally everything in fiction is based on something in real life

>creatures based on creatures from the real world
It's a mystery where the animal name classifications came from
>berries based on fruits from the real world
Some material in-game suggests that Berries are Pokemon food. Some material in the anime suggests berries and real life fruit co-exist.
>regions based on locations from the real world
They need to retcon the Pokedex and some dialogue in older games. Worldbuilding makes it look foolish, now.
>character outfits based on outfits from popular people or popular animations
Audrey Hepburn is one, but I think that's the only one the fanbase is in agreement about. The rest are debatable (i.e. Elesa being based on Lady Gaga is reaching, considering she's just borrowing from experimental fashion shows)
