I got hype as fuck when the XY Gym Battle music kicked in.

When Ash commanded Rowlet and Rockruff to fly towards the Continental Crush thought he was going to do what he did against Olympia by using the Z-Move against Lycanroc and Probass similar to how he used Future Sight against the Meowstic duo.

With him flying up I thought he was going to lead it towards Probopass.

Rockruff will evolve into a Midday form. All this shit started just because some dataminer shit said "oops there is a data for Lycanroc omg 3rd Lycan confirmed!!1". This Green Flash means absolutely nothing. It's like overreacting on Rainbow or some shit.

The Olivia fight was underwhelming for being a kahuna battle and the lack of accelrock was disappointing. The final 1v1 battle was pretty good though but ash just dodging the z move the way he did was anticlimactic. At least we finally get to see type:null but I really hope there isn't a 3rd form revealed in the anime just because how obnoxious some posters in these threads would become. Overall the episode was a solid 7/10

But nearly Ash's entire team but Rowlet got special treatment.

Litten and pikachu got the whole mele mele arc.

Rowlet is getting his focused episode next Thursday.

But why do they seem to be saving Rowlet's focused episode this long. What exactly are they planing with him.

Pikachu got the whole, battle tapu koko And a bonding with ash in episode 20.

Litten got a foreshadow of his capture. And like all the fire pokemons ash catches, a tragic back story to go with it. But unlike the other fire pokemons litten's tragedy involved death and the lost of a well knon character.

Rockruffs focus started when gladion came along. They emphasized how much rockruff wants to get stronger, and evolution is his gole. And then we get to the up coming episode, where rockruffs dream finally becomes a reality. And for a bonus, he might even get a surprise new form never seen before by the audience.

And Rowlet, ...nothing.
My hypothesis is that what ever they're saving for Rowlet, must be more important then all the things mentioned up there.

Because it makes the Kahuna or trainenr using it come off as underwhelming. It's basically them wasting their strongest attack. They could have had it miss but still do something against Ash and his Pokemon. What makes it worse is that it seems like every time a Kahuna uses their Z-Move against Ash, it does nothing to him, and he counters back with a Z-Move he barely practiced.

And seriously, that fuckhuge rock dropping and not leaving no kind of small pebbles or debris? That's too silly even for the anime.

Ash in S/M series is competent , however the problem is that there is no league in Alola for him.
The only reason people hold on to pokeani because they want Ash to win a league.

With that logic every series so far has been filler since Ash hasn't won a League yet.

We also don't know what USM has to offer the series. A league CAN be built/started in the anime, we just don't know if anything of that nature is going to happen. Ashs goal in SM is to graduate, collect Z-Crystals, and fight the Kahunas. With how Ash is progressing through the region in his battles and training, gaining the attention of both Tapu Koko and Tapu Lele, we're probably looking at a Battle Frontier type ending to the series. With Ash being offered role as Island/Alola Champion since he's impressed the Kahunas, people of Alola, and has the Guardians blessings. But Ash being Ash turns them down saying how he wants to keep travelling and learning, and to become a Champion the proper way by winning a League, the Elite Four, and eventually the Champions League.

SM feels like a direct continuation of SM but with Ashs character more expressive and fun rather then the serious mature Ash we saw in XY, which is actually better given how he's competent in battle but also able to give us moments like we saw in yesterdays battle with how he cheered up Rockruff.

People who continually hate SM are XYbabies who want the high octane fights and "mature" feeling to the series and can't accept that SM is not that kind of show. You'd think after a year people would stop bitching about the art style, but I guess we can't be that lucky.

Ashs battling skill and style wasn't known to any of the characters in Alola at that point. a key point over the course of SM so far is just how ridiculous Ash is when it comes to Pokemon. The Kahunas acknowledge his skill and strength, having to go all out against Ash because he's a skilled trainer. the Tapu's have an interest in Ash, where it's leading we can't be sure but its there. Characters have stated that Ash must be an interesting kid to have the Tapus attention.

Yesterdays episode had everyone say that Ash was lucky that Continental Crush took out Stealth Rock, only Kaki corrected them and said it wasn't luck but what Ash planned for to happen.

Ash is again and again surprising everyone with what he can do and what he will do for his Pokemon. There's a scene that happened in yesterdays episode, with Lillie not understanding what Ash meant when he said "I'll fight together with you" to Rockruff, I guarantee that will be referenced in the future at some point.

At some point Kukui will bring up fighting Ash, or that he used to be a Trainer himself, and that's when we'll get our first real "Oh yeah, Ash and Kukui haven't battled yet" moment which will set the stage for the future. They don't want to do it right away since how slow paced SM is. They've been building towards something with all of these characters, and so far its better written then quite a bit of XY/DP.

Ash and Kukui will fight at some point, but whether or not Kukui used to be a trainer is still unknown. We really don't know anything about him aside from the fact that he researches attacks and teaches at Pokemon school.

The moment Ash VS Kukui in episode 2 was taken away from us laid the foundation for an eventual fight between the two to take place. More then likely in a moment where Ash needs to do some intense training or to use it as a book ends to the series.

Boy, I loved watching FemAsh in DP with a bland personality to match do her boring contests and be nothing buy Ashs cheerleader for the series, not to mention Brock have 0 personality or reason to be in the DP aside from being the cook.

They things that DP did right were minimal. Ash and Paul as rivals were done well. Ash and Infernape were done well. The League end was not, XY despite its unpopular focus was miles better then the DP ending. The Pokemon in DP that were not Ash or Pauls were generally bland and boring without personality.

SM has given the Pokemon and people distinctive personalities and goals, as well as lightly teasing the future of things to come.
