Sheer force and perfect special coverage are the big boy's selling points. Give him tailwind support and he will excel at cleaning and revenge killing. Sadly his bulk and speed leave a lot to be desired but he'll do his job.

The math doesn't even work like that. EVs and natures factor in before boosts, so with max EVs Nidoking's base special attack reaches something closer to like 130 thanks to Sheer Force. Likewise Mega Mawile has something along the lines of 300 base Attack rather than the expected 210, and Tapu Koko has around 160 base SpA when it's firing off electric moves.

Those boosting abilities really do a number on making otherwise pathetic-looking base stats become godlike.

Mixed or physical Nidoking is a decent lure, but the special sets are much better just because of its insane special movepool that can take advantage of Sheer Force. My favorite set to use right now in OU is three attacks+Stealth Rock.

Gunk Shot would make Nidoking a brutal mixed wall breaker. It can run its usually max Special Attack and Speed and still 2HKO special walls.
