I personally prefer i11's, due to the textures of the character's face. Lillie's face is low-res and rather pixelated, even in the cutscenes where her high quality model is used.

If I were cherrypicking one way or another, I would've used an i11 animated cutscene, or Lillie's low quality model in the standard cutscenes from >>33181280 instead of the better one. Both of these are also from early on in the game, and at a moment where no action is happening on-screen at that moment.
Which one you prefer is all personal taste, but I made sure to avoid making one look worse.

GameFreak are incompetent developers who have also found out they can be lazy as humanly possible because no matter what they do, they will print millions for every game they release.
They only got this far because Pokemon was a surprise smash hit and PokeMania saved them from getting laughed at by literally everyone with the spaghetti code of Gen 1.

Honestly If only the normalfags stopped form buying this game it would improve.

I like the visual style the Pokemon games go for much, much more. It could be executed better though, which I hope it will on the Switch since they can just throw it at better hardware if they aren't going to bother to optimize properly. But I get the feeling they're going to fall for the "cell shading is bad" meme and drop it for a look like Tretta/GaOle.

The IE comparison is better, because it actually goes for a decent and similar visual style. But to be honest they look about equal to me battle/cutscene character model wise, a slight edge to IE for being able to better emulate the outlines from its artwork.

That was a remake, and that remake had come out something like 3 years ago in Japan, and a more recent remake of a newer (and honestly superior) game had already been announced for localization (though I doubt it sold very well either). Last time a first-release main series game came out in the West (Dragon Quest IX for the DS, released in the West in 2010) it sold over a million copies. Time will tell how well DQ XI will do, but the big difference for IX was that it actually got some pretty significant advertizing whereas VII 3DS got fuck all. Dunno how it was done in the past, but the fact that they got the series creator to announce the localization of XI suggests that they'll actually try to promote this one. I'm thinking at least 500,000 copies in the West across PS4, 3DS, and Switch is possible when all's said and done.

Dragon Quest actually has a budget. It's not Final Fantasy tier but it's still considerably large since DQ makes so much money in Japan.

Pokémon has the budget of your average indie game developed by 20 people despite being one of the most lucrative game franchises of all time, because they know their target audience doesn't care.

It's impossible to look good on a 3ds
