You don't play pokemon to restart the same game file over and over when timed exclusives exist if you care about them.You buy new games or trade with others if you want more pokemon.
Making limited time events was a means of making you buy new games if you want to keep the exclusive progress.
Its how they designed it.

Gen 3 with their Deoxys and Mew was the beginning.
wireless link events and then wifi allowed them to make this a normal occurrence.
even making people get multiple games just to get muliple of the event rewards.
It makes them more money than you think.
