I'm fighting the elite four in sun right now and my pokemon just got hit with a move that should have killed it but then it said it toughed through it or something because I had the friendship at the max. then I got hit again and it said I toughed through it again and the move did NO DAMAGE to me. what the hell is this

The thing is, I only really used Refresh to get free Rare Candies, and didn't think much about the relationship I would make with my Pokémon.
