BW and BW2 are the best games overall.

The DS era of Pokemon was probably my favorite.

So Platinum, HeartGold/SoulSilver, Black/White, and Black2/White2.

Gens 4 and 5 those would be.

Since its 2DS, you can't play gen 3, so that's out.
I'd say pick Red, Blue, Yellow, Platinum, Heart Gold, or Soul Silver.

Its better to go for an earlier version so you won't suffer from expecting mechanics to exist that just straight up do not. The choice between gens 1 or 4 are mainly how far back are you willing to go.

I'd say get one of BW1 first, since those games are sequels, unlike the rest of the games' third versions being closer to remakes. You'll probably enjoy it, but at the same time, you'll likely be confused about what's going on with anything returning from the first game. Also, BW2 has a lot of pokemon from other games plus the ones added for BW1, so you may find yourself overwhelmed trying to remember multiple games' worth of pokemon's typings and traits. Longer time fans have had them gradually introduced to us over a period of years, so I don't know how well all at once will go.
