And then gen 5 happened and the light started shining through. It got stronger with BW2 so GF toned it down with XY, but it was still good and SM made the light brighter again. Amen, OP.

The dark age started with BW. Up through XY though, there was hope for improvement. ORAS and SM however just show a complete detachment on Game Freak's part.

Nah, most people just wanted a revisit of Hoenn, which is really easy to accomplish. However, how they approached it completely ignoring Emerald changes besides retooling some of Emerald's new story battles for Delta Episode shows the aforementioned detachment from the fans none the less.

SM's problem is more how detached it is from some of the core ideals of Pokemon that the series took root in twenty years prior, with the game's general progression and level design directly clashing with it.
