>Ash "supercharged" Pikachu with a generator in season 1
>Pikachus have Lightning Rod
>Stat buffs last until the Pokemon is returned
>Ash hasn't returned Pikachu since episode 1
>Pikachu's been running around with a maximum special attack boost for the last twenty years
Am I thinking too hard or is this a thing that actually happened?

>Stat buffs last until the Pokemon is returned
Yellow and HGSS prove this wrong.
I get legitimately salt whenever Pikachu loses a match to some random Pokemon. The idea that Pikachu isn't always Ash's strongest Pokemon is absurd to me. It should only ever lose to Legendaries, Megas, and the occasional strong trainer's ace.

This. Boosts last until the end of a battle or until the Pokemon goes back into a ball. If either one happens, they lose the boosts.
Ash's pikachu have static, though

maybe Pikachu is just incompetant.

Maybe Pikachu runs out of PP

This is why I can't stand Best Wishes. How dare they have Pikachu lose to a fucking Snivy, electricity or not. And then Ash losing to a 5 mon team in the League just seals the deal for me.
The Kalos League was much much better despite the frog still failing, but at least the writers made it evident that the frog wasn't going to win by having the battle so intense and Greninja falling to the side in such an out-of-the-blue wacky fashion. I liked that Pikachu actually took down Tyranitar and Metagross -- that felt so good and deserved to watch.
