If I can shave off maybe the last 4-5 months, gen 6.
Gen 6 was honestly a fun and interesting meta until right at the very end when people stopped trying and every single offense team was the same 2-3 bulky pivots with the same 2-3 wallbreakers

Oh shit, I want to go back.

Gen 3 for the meta that had a large roster of viable mons in OU, a balance between offense and bulk, and didn't need 1000x clauses to stop gimmicks. Playing in the gen 3 meta has made it clear to me that the game is never going to be in that kind of balance again for a few reasons.

Power creep puts a huge burden on OU and sets the bar too high for all but 20 or so pokemon.

The special/physical move trait introduced in gen 4 was something that sounds great in theory, but the way it was implemented resulted in a hyper offense meta at first, and has only been counteracted by power creep.

gen 6

Gen 4 was the best metagame before the power creep skewed usage to hell and back. The very beginning of Gen 6 meta was fun as well since everything felt so fresh. Somewhat related to the meta, but the online presence of Gen 6 when it first came out is (and may always be) unmatched.
