I'm just a casual pokemon fan, and i want to play S&M again but dont want to loose all my pokemon I've leveled up to near 100 and my attempt at completing the pokedex. So my question is do I spend £5 on pokebank or stfu and just restart?

Do it. It makes it easier to move Pokémon to other games as well (like USUM).

Also you can keep your gen 7 bros with you for eternity if you wish.

Pokebank is worth it trust me, saved my ass quite a few times and the search feature is insanely dope.
