That wouldn't be the only reason, they showed bits of the Genesect movie before showing Mega Mewtwo as well.
Instead, I suspect that the other major aspect of the movie is related to USM and they have to wait for that to actually start releasing information before they can show footage.

Here's the teaser visual. Worth noting that it doesn't feature any potentially new USUM legendaries or UB as the teaser at the end of the Hoopa movie teased Perfect Zygarde. Movie teasers typically feature legendary pokemon or new/current gen pokemon.

It could be an Indigo League movie due to the stadium or a Viridian City Gym movie. There's a lot of Team Rocket shilling during the movie's release, and next year is the 20th anniversary of the first movie. Not to mention that movie 1 characters appeared at the start of movie 20, and Agatha made an appearance in Ash's dream sequence so the E4 could play a role in a potential sequel. Safest guess is that it'll be another Kanto movie that might feature Mewtwo and the Indigo League as the movie 20 ends with the narrator saying "the journey will continue."

They don't want hype for the Switch game to overshadow USM, which they haven't even released any details of to begin with. Look at how much more often people post about the Switch game rather than USM here with literally nothing to go off of for either game.

We'll get a trailer next year that showcases Gen 8's Mythical, they can't blow their load on revealing new Pokemon when USUM isn't even out yet.
My guess is that it'll be an Alola Movie with Necrozma, the UBs and the aforementioned Mythical that also happens to get Lillie's Family Issues out of the way so the Anime doesn't have to spend time on it for the sole purpose of rushing Ash to Gen 8's Region.
