I'm okay with the movie because the current anime is a mess. If you're okay with nearly 1000 episodes of constant losses and 1000 episodes of Ash and his friends failing at everything, then you're fucking insane. Why would anyone want a remake of any season? Shudo himself has said the anime is about ash and pikachu. So many people have said the anime would be better if the anime focused on a new mc,everyone is just being a hypocrite. The anime is delivering on showing how ash met pikachu,there's reason the first few trailers focused on those iconic scenes from the first episode. Misty and Brock aren't the face if the anime,ash is. If you're really a fan of the anime then you care about ash and his goal which is why seeing him get so close to reaching it like in XY hyped people up so much. Misty and Brock are just two of ash's many friends. Genwunners should be satisfied with the fact that both stayed for longer than one region

I know exactly what I'm talking about, Anon. The anime is 970+ episodes long. It'll hit the 1000 mark very soon. Orange Islands is a neutered league, and Battle Frontier isn't as impressive because Brandon didn't use a full Regi team against Ash. Not to mention Gary knocked Ash off his high horse shortly afterwards. None of the travelling companions make any notable progress in their goals. They simply go to Johto/Hoenn only to be never heard from again.

I genuinely like Ash and Pikachu, which is why I keep up with the anime from time to time. I would like to see an adventure where Ash and Pikachu grow on their own merits and attempt to capture legendary pokemon rather than relying on the character(s) of the season to remind them of things they know or should know.

Yeah, except you're still wrong. In the 1000 episodes, Ash has won his battles way more times than he has lost. Even if we say rematches don't count, in Johto alone he only lost against Whitney. In Hoenn, only against Brawly, in XY only against Viola and Wulfric. Sinnoh was more though and Kanto was more but I know it was less than half. Then consider all the character of the days he wins against, and league matches, and then the battle frontier and then Orange League.
And then if you want to count Team Rocket, which as you can see I didn't, he wins battles nearly every episode.

So no, it isn't anywhere near 1000 episodes of constant losses, it's actually almost the opposite.

I hated Serena's crush myself, so I didn't count it as a positive like a lot of people did. I'm not from reddit, but when I was watching the earlier episodes I noticed the lack of conflict with every rival being friendly and Ash's inability to lose. Korrina was as far as I got before I gave up.

XY gets good when Serena stops being shit and the pacing ramps up, but I've always assumed that the shitness of that first year got a pass mostly because of amour.
