Gen 2 and 4 were pretty bad pokemon wise. Nothing but ugly babbys and ugly evolutions, HGSS were concentrated gen 2 and 4 into one game while only half fixing the problem old gen 2 had.

Same OP, but on my case i played it for the 1st time, never had played a Johto game, so i bought SoulSilver, and the region's pacing is too fast, but then gets too slow at team rocket with barely any buildup, and Kanto feels so empty, its really not that fun as HGSS-fags make it out to be

Pretty much this. I went back and replayed through every game recently, and I couldn't finish HG. I got bored, put it down and moved onto Black, which was more enjoyable.

XY was surprisingly enjoyable playing through again. Probably because of all the options

Pokemon ended with g4, was soft rebooted with G5 (which I enjoyed), fans generally disliked how far from the standard formula it was, and then G6 onward so far has been a hot mess amalgum of good and bad ideas, missed opportunities, and reversions of positive aspects on former generations. the series is in an awkward transitionary stage

I cant recomend any title after BW2 as good games, let alone good pokemon games.
