Gen I meta is actually pretty fucking fun. Speed-based crits give mons like Persian more of a niche, things tend to move fairly quickly, Psychics have to watch out for hard hitting normal moves, Rock/Ground and fucking Ice Pokemon are not only viable, but good. Honestly, with a few tweaks (fixing ghost types, giving bugs a psychic resist and general stat buff, buffing fire/fighting/flying types by giving them better access to moves and buffing their attacks, and buffing shitmons in general) it could be the most balanced meta.

Not even a Genwunner (Gen V is my personal favorite gen, followed closely by IV), but I have a far easier time imagining a balanced Gen I meta than a balanced Gen IV or V meta.
