Canines, Houndoom and Arcanine for certain.
Water types for fire
Shaymin or poison types to clear out gas
Ghost types
Steel
Fighting/anything physically strong
Fairy assuming they can heal humans

Rapidash, Cavalry were an important part of battle for millennia. Also, it would be totally badass to ride one of those thing and shoot arrows from a recurve bow while Rapidash sets your arrows on fire mid-flight.

Timburr and its older brothers could easily be trained to wield stronger bludgeoning weapons than wood/girders/slabs. And pokemon can use their moves on people, you'd just have to desensitize them to killing and death.

Honedge and its older brothers are another obvious choice. Ghost types in general would make great spies and assassins. I could see a lot of high ranking generals and VIPs keeping loyal Dark types like Mightyena and Houndoom around them all the time to keep ghost type assassins away.

Psychic types would play a critical role too, especially ones that can see the future like Xatu. Get a glimpse of the outcome of a battle and you can know ahead of time if it's okay to attack or retreat. Of course, the enemy probably has Xatus too so they can also take this into account and plan accordingly.

It's already confirmed from the anime that ditto can shapeshift into a cannon, so why not keep a few around in case your actual cannons need an emergency replacement?

A particularly amoral leader might strap cute harmless pokemon like Piplup to his troops to use as a sort of living armor, because what kind of heartless fuck would shoot at someone carrying around a Piplup on their backpack?
the same kind that would use piplup as a human shield, that's who!

Chansey and Blissey are a natural addition to any medical unti, and can defend themselves with Egg Bombs, which I imagine would be like weak grenades.

Gyarados would make an obvious addition to any Navy, seeing as how they can capsize large boats and cause storms. Three or four of them working together could probably knock over an aircraft carrier.

Powerful ground types would be great for demolishing enemy fortifications or Viet Cong tunnels/cutting out trenches for your own men.

Specifics don't really matter, the attributes of the type determine more than the pokemon themselves.
