So what was gen 5's?
Not anti-unova, just thinking

Hidden abilities

I thought about that, but abilities were pre-exsisting. If I included that, I'd have to include all the stat and ability changes in gen 7

Focusing on being good, complete games instead of wasting energy on gimmicks.
Also, consider the following:
Triple/rotation/inverse battles
Literal difficulty toggle
Only newmon (for BW anyway)
Seasons
All that online entralink dreamworld horseshit

Infinite TMs?

Seasons
Triple/Rotation

It's actually a third ability slot, it is quite huge considering what Gen3 did, it is also the region that expanded on form changes after Pt gave us Rotom while adding seasons and building music regarding the player actions.
You might want to add everstone and synchronize as well as field abilities to Esmerald, power items IV transfer to HGSS while you are at it. Gen 5 added almost nothing to breeding though so we skip to gen 6 and DK as well as ball passing.
Gen 5 also added multiplatform connectivity outside of Nintendo devices and out of cartridge currency with the dreamworld if you want to be a bit nitpicky about it. I'd also argue that Gen 4 gave us Wi-Fi and the GTS, the PSS is the best version though.

This is the biggest contribution ever. Infinite TMs is a blessing people take for granted these days.

Infinite TMs

Triple/Rotation
Hidden Abilities
Better Repel System in BW2

Yeah. Back in my day we used to save our TMs for that "right time" and ended up never using them at all.
Gen 1:
>pokemon
>battling
>trading
>evolution by level up
>evolution by trading
>evolution by stone
>starters
>gyms
>badges
>e4
>pokeballs
>professors
>rivals
>moms
>hms
>tms
>items
>money
>routes
>cities
>towns
>caves
>victory roads
>evil teams
>legendary pokemon
And people still think gen 1 was bad.
